Polar Vortex Hudson River Diggin'

Since I have the day off on Mondays, I decided to hit my tried and true goldmine of a spot that never disappoints in the lower Hudson valley. Before I go further, let me tell you that at low tide at 6:15 this morning with a stiff north wind at 15 mph the temperature was sitting at 6 degrees with a wind chill of -5. It was damn cold! Below is my tally for one hour of swinging and digging this morning

Nice score. How are you digging with this deep freeze? Where these just sticking out of the mud? I really like the ginger ale bottle. You should post this in the glass forum the folks down there would love to see these.

Yes for the most part some aspect of the bottles were sticking up and being that I do this on low tide which only leaves a slight surface crust, I gently work them out. Two good things happen at this location, I don't have to fill in holes, tidal currents do that for me and I can go two days in a row and never see the same bottles/bottle frags. Its a gift that keeps on giving.

You must have an incredible pair of gloves so your hands don't freeze!
Nice finds!
I think this has to be one of the longest, snowiest, coldest winters on record, if not it sure feels that way!

I stocked up on hand warmers this season, lol. I do a lot of ice fishing so I am somewhat immune to the cold now and I have the gear to keep me warm, wool. Even when wet, wool will keep you warm.

Great finds, great pix. You are hard core, got there just before the snow too.

Fortunately, we didn't get any snow this time, not even a dusting, we have been hard hit this winter and its about time we had a break up here. Although, south and central jersey got slammed.

I commend you on your finds and your tolerance of the cold!! I would have to a have killer site to brave any weather under 30 Degrees F.

Its trial and error to find a spot thats been producing for me for the last 4 yrs. Like they say, Oceans/Tides reveal stuff when its ready. Now if I can now get a 200ft low tide, I can get to some of the revolutionary war shipwrecks.:BangHead:???

Nice recoveries, but too hardcore for me. I like to try and wait till the temp is somewhat above Arctic before hitting the dirt.

Great bottles I love digging them but never get any that old. I think winter is loosing its grip at last. We shall see. Happy hunting!

Friday High of 40...Saturday High of 47 Both days full of sun! Hopefully It melts the snow and ice so I can hit the other hot spots in the area.
