Awesome artifact! What state are you in? Your second copperhead artifact is a lot more colorful than my first ever found copperhead I found in my yard...thinking they grow more colorful than the NC Piedmont ones do! ;-)

Cant enlarge the pics for some reason to get a closer look. I think those snakes are real pretty from a distance, lol.

I'll get another pic for you rock ... I'm it tennessee these guys are very pretty snakes if not for it being 75 yards from the house with all these kids I would of let him slide ... But copperheads aren't like rattlers they aren't scared of humans as much so I'm sorry Mr tractor if I have offended you

They banded water snakes resemble these guys

I think you have a nice scraper Painter,
You didn't offend me, but I would have relocated it, as I have done dozens of times.
Nice find...

Have to do what ya gotta do to protect your kids and self...don't know about TN but in NC these bites cause some seriously expensive treatment like around $10,000 plus and post damage where they bite. And if you don't do something and let them alone then you will be overrun by them as in the case of us leaving the black rat snakes be in my shop and now there are way too many, can't even move in there for fear of them grabbing you, they don't move either. Now if we just has some racers or king snakes then all would be good ;-)

A rat snake "grabbing you"??? HUH?? Rat snakes are completely harmless..
I'm gonna let this one go, about the snakes, cause I dont want to cause any hard feelings..
Nice find painterx...might be a preform, I'm not real sure with your area.

That copperhead would look real nice on the back of my Osage self bow!!!

Rock looks like a preform to me.

I was hunting ginseng one time and I was walking and stopped looked around ... Then I looked down between my feet was the midsection of a 4 foot rattler I stood still for a sec then stepped away and never looked back if he didn't bite me I wasn't gonna bite him haha

I feel like I need to clarify the rat snake thing and then I'll stop...my husband was always catching snakes, playing with them and letting them go, and he was bad to just stick his hands in places in the shop without looking first and I said you better watch where you're putting your hands or you're gonna get bit and then one day he stuck his hand in a shelf and a 5' rat snake latched onto his hand...well all those little teeth made a real bad place on the top of his hand and their mouths aren't too clean and it got infected. I know they catch mice and such and I like that and we haven't been killing them but I found 6 sheds in the shop this year and more around it and would really love for someone to relocate these guys so I can hang out and do things in there without worrying about getting "grabbed" by one like my husband did and that's what I meant. I know there are snake lovers among us and that's fine, I'm a lizard lover myself and get bent outta shape when someone hurts them and love the little ring-necked snakes that live around my shop too. Also, rat snakes are friends of the poisonous ones unlike the racers and king snakes so there's no help there either. I've prolly said too much and gonna stop now myself, just clearing things up for whatever reason.

Send me the recipe ... I have a few in the freeze and would love to try your way of tanning ...I got this one back when I was logging and just killed them on site this 56 inch timber was at base of a tree he sure scared me

I love snakes,Gators..all wildlife really ..the best way to cure your snake problem is to cut off the food source that the rodents are feeding on..once the rodents leave so will the snakes.

Wish I could back at the shop but it's not sealed and sits right next to the creek, there's all kinds of critters around and inside it, afraid to put out poison because I don't want to harm everything, does snake away work? I heard it doesn't.
