Is it a single shot? Or do you think it was a revolver?

smaller than 22? ??? The only thing I could think of thats smaller is a bb. Maybe the barrel is corroded and looks smaller. Anything for size comparison?

the hammer seems to line up like a rim fire. doesn't look like a revolver. Almost looks like the item on the side would hold the bullet in place by spring action..like a reverse extractor.

.17HMR is smaller, but obviously not available when this gun was made, I imagine that's what you meant...

I agree, most likely .22 caliber, single shot, single action.

Below is a picture of a little one I have amassed over the years...some similarity...

The octagonal base near the chamber end is like a J. Stevens style .22 but the lever thing on the side is not right.

May be an el cheapo belgian .22, single shot ,the piece on top would swing up and away to allow insertion of the cartrige. sometimes known as saturday nighters because later on the were given away if you bought a suit on sat night.probably a .22 short. not really a good defense weapon at any greater range than the width of a card table. 5.5 Velodog single shot handgun used by bicycle riders to ward off viscious dogs back in the early days of bicycling and before political correctness. Guess. Monty

The pictures I have found of the Velodog guns were revolvers, so I don't think that's what it is after due consideration. It just seems to be a single shot pocket gun? Something like this? Monty

That's a pretty little piece Monty.

I agree it's a single shot like tinpan's pistol, but for the difference in quality of manufacture between the two, I suggest tinpan's pistol is possibly a one-off or very limited model
or a toy :icon_scratch:

A sense of scale will help with pics from different angles if possible please tinpan. ;D :D Mate

I don't think it's a toy because of the flat mainspring in the grip. Toys usually don't have that, too expensive to make if it's very old. lI think it's a cheaper model of the one I found the picture of, or one very similar. The one in the pic is a one of a kind collector's model worth a lot of $$$. it just happened to be the only one I could find a pic of. I have seeen the cheap copies at the gun shows here in the USA.

the key to this is going to be to figure out what the metal tab sticking out is. I cant find any early gun with that gap or tab in it.
