Because I spent 4 hours today, hunting the yard of a home built in 1900, and only pulled 3 Wheats and the parts to 3 different Cap Guns. The Wheats were 1920, 38 and 49. The Cap Guns came out of the ground in pieces, but I was able to fit them together on the appropriate guns. I was really hoping for some old silver or tokens from this yard. The home has been in the family for the last 70 years, and they said no one has ever searched the yard before. It even had an empty lot next to it, that was part of the same yard. Oh well, glad I woke up from my bad dream ! Guess I'll settle for the Wheats and Cap Guns.

I've had that happen also. My next door neighbor's house was built about 1900. I got probably 50 wheat cents off the lawn, but only one badly scratched Merc dime. I don't think they had all that much.

Likely someone’s been there, possibly without permission or anyone knowing it....

I have had the same dang dream!

I'd give it one more hoovering just in case. Atleast you pulled a couple keepers. May be something hiding somewhere.:dontknow:

It happens, I hit a house from 1905 and only found a V nickel and some wheats!

That stinks! I had an 1855 permission this summer and was told it was hit before. Found 19 wheats (by far my record), but only 1 Merc and no relics. Worst part is the anticipation and sleepless night thinking about all of silver and coppers, and then wheatmania. Next time.

My brother's place built in 1925. I pulled up a weather vane, nails and some shotgun shells.

I had a chance to check a 100 year old place and found wheats from the teens and an 1899 barber quarter. Think I need to go back and work it with no discrimination to find those buffaloes!

Happens to me all the time. Some places I have dreams about end up producing next to nothing...

It happens...….a few years ago I was able to hunt a co-worker's home which was built in 1855. My finds for the three hours I spent there? A clad quarter, a toy car, and some junk !

I attribute this phenomenon to the fact silver coins are shiny. therefore when dropped they were easily seen and immediately recovered.
the pennies being copper or brown in color blend in well with the ground and were left for us to find.

Dont wake up till you get the gold coins my friend. I dream of treasure all the time

Well.....you might try getting a *real* detector.....

(DUCK!!!! INCOMING!!!!)
:tongue3:

I know you started hunting like dreams where about to happen lol

Man I’ve been there. Sometimes I truly felt like I forgot how to metal detect.

Hey, it's hit or miss sometimes. I usually do ok under old clothes lines in those older places. Look for attachments points on house, garage or trees, thenjust follow the line.

I do plan on it RV. Gonna hit the whole place again next Tuesday or Wednesday on my days off. Sometimes you just have those kinds of yards. I did not mention in my post, that I also dug 35 clad coins and 22 pieces of garbage.

The oldest section of my son's house was built in 1832. A previous owner told him the place had been hit hard by treasure hunters. And the local Tesoro dealer once lived and operated at a house across the street! I've only found a few clad and a lot of modern bullets.

He plans to have his porches replaced and I'm looking forward to hunting that newly exposed soil.

GL back in there. 60 some odd targets dug was cleaning up pretty darn good. I'm hoping you have some additional luck next trip with a couple nice jaw droppers. Keep us posted.
