Hi everybody!
I was metal detecting a field in Sweden, found this ring. (A half ring i think)
It looks old but i have no idea how old?
I think it`s a bronze ring?

It`s written a text on it and some kind of symbol, i don`t recognize the language. I think it`s maybe like russian?
Have no idea.. :-(

Pleasssse if anyone have any idea of the age, language, whats written on it and the symbol???

I appreciate all kind of help :-)
Thanx

It appears that it may be a seal ring? Thus the writing is in reverse? This would explain the top half, exept that I don't know where one word starts and the next begins. And the bottom appears to be upside down as well?
Using what I could read (backward) on the top was riaevilan, so I tried googling portions of that, but just came up with Portugese and Italian things that made no sense to me.

I think the letters at 12:00 are:

VII

It looks like it says PAVL 9 SACHARIAE VII AN 19. I looked up the Sachariae vii part and it looks like it could be a biblical reference? I'm not biblically educated but was there a book of Paul or something along those lines?

If one of the guys from Europe can give an opinion on the age, we may be able to figure out the words.

My first thought was religious/Christian relate. But it was just my 'gut' reaction. I have no proof (yet).

Very interesting find. Thanks for posting.

Matt

Thanks for welcome me DCMatt!
Don`t know age on this one. I think its bronze, the church close to the field is build in 1100.
I found 1 coin i identified to age 1750 on another field close by this. But just found this ring at this field.

What kind of church? Catholic? Evangelical?

If the ring is church related it may help withresearch.

Before I read the first translation attempt (PAVL 9 SACHARIAE VII AN 19), I was seeing PAVL 9 SACHARIAE EVIL AN 19

It looks like latin to me. Definitely not greek or hebrew. Maybe a family signet ring. I took each letter and ran them horizontal. There is what looks like a star and I am assuming it may be used as a "break" between words. Some of the symbols I cannot identify. So best I can gues is maybe a name. Not sure how the attachment will look until I post this. If it's too small I will fix...

Thank you Ed-D!
Very good job. Nice picture you came up with!
I think you right about latin, it was my first thought when i found the ring but couldn`t get the letter right. Like backwards, wrong way..
But now i see in you picture looks like latin alphabet. Yes the symbol can be initials, in your picture it looks like a R at left top.
Hard to find the name on google, think i have to go to the church if i want to look up the name.
appreciate the help// thanks

The symbol in the middle seems to say "PAUL"....."SACHARIAE" translates as "Zechariah".....if that is a "9" then the "VI" isnt going to be a number...

Signet ring, or weapons ring
A ring that is used to sign letters and documents, by stamping it with lacquer. The motif is engraved negatively to imprint a positive surface. The motive, seal, is often the same as the coat of arms if there is any , and the ring is often inherited.
