Hi we have just been on holiday to Cornwall and we were staying near to one of the old mines there and my 8 year old daughter who enjoys collecting rocks found these. The only problem is I haven't a clue about rocks so can't help her discover any further to what they are. So I would love if you would be able to help me. The two small grey ones are the same rock just from different angles one side is rainbow coloured and the sides have like silver dots. And the larger grey rock has alot of gold specs, could this be fools gold? Or the real thing? Shes hoping it is. Thanks in advance.

Can't really tell from your photos if it is gold or pyrite (fool's gold), but the White quartz points to possible gold in the area, and the grey schist seems to have copper and maybe silver in it. Pretty cool!:skullflag:

Thankyou for your response I'll look forward to telling her when she gets up in the morning. She spent all of her holiday money on minerals bless her. She has a good selection now.

I'm guessing bornite, on the rainbow piece ... and darn if when I look it up it mentions Cornwall. :)

I'm happy to have read this thread. My wife and I were hiking near an old quarry in North Carolina and found a rock with variegated coloring. Naturally, we were wondering what it is and after reading this info, I believe it is bornite. Good info. Thanks.
