I bought this painting at an estate sale and as I was leaving a gentleman(who spent over $1000 and bought majority of the art)stopped me and asked if he could take it out of the frame and look at the painting more closely.

He said he didn't buy it because it didn't look "professionally framed"...... But he was curious bc there was fabric taped inside the frame behind the painting.

The fabric was folded in the shape of a rectangle smaller than the framed painting so we unfolded it and found theese 4 "drawings"

He didn't know the artist but said they resemble 19th century British art from the UK. He immediately offered me more than I paid but I said no.

Here is the artists signature from the bottom right photo... This is the clearest of the signatures

Top row-right photo, lady playing piano, signature is somewhat different but in the same area(bottom right corner).

Here are the signatures of the two photos on the left. These signatures are on the bottom left corner, different from the first two and a lot harder to read.

To my eye the signature is "Wm Stan Jr".

But I can't find any art or artist by that name on the internet.

I thought it said "Wm. S. Fan Jr.", and although I can find that name online it wasn't related to art at all.

Are the four drawings or etchings? You can tell an etching by the way the plate was pressed into the paper. There will be a ridge at the edge.

Thanks for the help yall. Here is a close up the Livery Stable signature. That's the most legible one

Ink and pen is all I can really come up with. When you say ridge do you mean the black square outline or the whole actual piece

That was my first thought but the "Fan" looks more like "Fass" or "Farr" in the Piano photo signature

Wm and Jr for sure, but in the "Decorating Christmas Tree" the S stands out by itself. So I don't think it's Stan
