Hi, this was found in N.E.Georgia at an old homestead. It has a hole at the base that had a nail in it. It most likely had a wooden handle that was inserted into the base, but it could not have been for heavy duty use because of the one small nail hole....I find many 1800 to 1900 farming tools at and around the site I found this...Thanks! I am 100%-certain it is a Whiffletree-Tip ...meaning, a decorative brass tip from the end of a wooden arm on a horsedrawn carriage's whiffletree. The version you found dates from the late-1800s to the early-1900s. They are shown in the 1895 Sears-&-Roebuck catalog, in various sizes. Here's a scan from that catalog, originally posted here on TreasureNet several years ago by PBK. (I sure do miss that guy.)
