It’s the day after Labor Day so most of the state parks are open for detecting. Some require written permission while others are open to all who wish to detect. You are limited to the beach and swimming area, but at least we can detect part of the park.
There were 4 detectorists at this particular park. 2 of us were in the water and the other guy was moving a little faster and working back and forth as I worked out to deep water and back to shallow. I had started in the middle of the swimming area and working toward the side he had finished. There were not a lot of targets and I was beginning to think he had cleaned the place, but I kept at it just in case. It was good choice. I found a couple of pennies and then I got a sweet tone on the ATPro and a VDI of 56 to 58. I found a nice man’s ring in the sifter and thought it was stainless. I picked it up and it was heavy so I looked inside and saw plat 950. Yahoo that’s number 5 platinum in 16 years of detecting, all of them men’s rings. Later I took a good look and saw it was an Artcarved ring. I finished the area and went on to the next. He was working that area and when he was done he came over to compare finds. He found 4 stainless and tungsten rings and said he could not believe he had missed the platinum one.
When all was said and done I came out with 34 coins worth $2.60, a bunch of costume jewelry, sinkers and the platinum ring. It weighs 14.6 grams or .47 Troy ounces (locally they buy precious metals by the penny weight so I weigh in Troy ounces.) (A penny weight is one 20th of a Troy ounce or .05 toz.)
The coolest find of the hunt was this bird skull pendant. It’s not silver or anything, just a neat find.
I will be going to another park tomorrow and am hoping I get lucky again and that the place has not been hit yet.lol Thanks for looking and keep swingin.
