This is one of the best finds that I have and it started off as just another day at the creek. Yesterday, I went with my wife and daughter along with my sister and her husband to cool off from this 100+ degree heat we are having here in Southwest Georgia. Shortly after we got in the water, which was less than knee deep, my sister pointed out two flint tools she spotted laying on the creek bed. These finds told me that there was likely points in the area so I started looking as well. I began running my fingers through the sand and finding pottery shards. After I worked that area with little luck, I decided to move down stream and try another spot. I had to pull some limbs out of the way to get a new area cleaned. Thats when this pipe came up. I did not find any points but thats o.k. with this taking thier place! This will likely be the center piece in my collection for quite some time. Any thoughts or comments are welcomed!! I've also posted this find on "Todays Finds as well.

absolutely stunning. that is a museum quality piece. the craftsmanship attention to detail and artistic ability of that person was a great gift to him or her. and now it has been gifted to you. can't get much more personal archaeologically speaking. congratulations

what a beautiful find GaRebel!! I don't think you will ever top that one. truly a find of a lifetime. congratulations!!

I've been good friends with GaRebal1861 for over 20years, I think that if anyone should find such a awsome piece (did I mention incredible), that the Gods of collecting sure picked the right guy this time. He is the one person that I can attribute my passion for getting out there and looking for my treasures. Thats a F-ing Bad A$$ find brother.

I can't say congradulations enough. I had to come back for another look. please keep us posted on your finds in that area heck you're probably there right now

Wow! To think such things are still out there, and in a creek no less! And I was so proud of my little pottery shard last year.

Is the tail broken? Looks like it from the pictures.

To All: Thank you for the Banner vote! That pipe still has me getting up and looking at it. As a matter of fact, I woke up extra early this morning and had to go see it again to make sure it was not a dream. I flipped the light on and it was still there. I've hunted a long time and to find that, I cannot think of anything that I will find that will top it. Again, Thank you. And to Diggindad my old Army buddy and good friend, When you get over here from the Great State of Texas next month, I want to let you know that there's a $3.00 charge plus tax to look at it!! $10 to hold it. :tongue3:

BJS, The tail is damaged. The damage is old so who knows when it happened. Our creeks down here in the deep south are slow moving normally and the sand shifts over time exposing items.

That is an amazing find! I can't even imagine finding something like that. Congratulations!!!!!

You might want to have that thing looked at by a local archaeologist who specializes in pipes and pipe production. In my opinion it's not consistent with any prehistoric art that I have seen from anywhere in the US. Sure, there are new discoveries every day that make me go hmmm, and I'm not saying it's not legit. However, it could have been tossed in the creek 50 years ago as an after thought from someone's Mexican vacation too. If it's legit it deserves to be studied because it's a completely new form of art for this part of the world.
