Plated Penny

I found this while coin roll hunting. I got excited when I saw the roll from the side thinking that maybe I found a steel penny, but that's not the case. I've heard of coins being electroplated, or whatever, before. Any information anyone can tell me about this would be great! Should it go with the rejects or is there any point to it? (it is not attracted to a magnet) Thanks for any help! :)

Looks like it has been subjected to high heat that damaged the microscopically thin outer layer of copper. A friend of mine (who shall remain nameless) has been known to heat a coin or two on top of the old kerosene heater with some interesting results. Zinc cents cannot withstand the heat.

If you heat up a penny with a brnz o matic propane torch it does kinda the same thing. Your right though, looks just like a steel penny :o I would check into it more though, there have been a few trial pieces over the years that are on different metals, does it feel lighter or heavier than a regular penny of that year?
