Well I had seen it talked about... So I said wth..
I had only used my Pro Pointer a few times and was already seeing some scrapes on my new $120.00 magic wand. I have seen people talking about how they have worn out more than one pointer due to this very thing and I wanted to prevent that from happening. I was also concerned about leaving my pointer somewhere or accidentally dropping it and not being able to find it so when I heard people talking about plasti dipping it, that seemed to solve a lot of problems. I was a little worried about it coming out looking like a pinterest project gone wrong or the plasti dip not coming off easily but I gave it a go and I am quite pleased how it came out. Actually surprised.. it came out much better than I thought. I just masked it off sprayed 5 coats (30 min dry time in between) then dressed it up with a razor blade after I finished. Couldn't be any easier. I would recommend it to anyone. This will definitely protect it from abrasion and lengthen the life of the pointer, also the plast dip peels of cleanly when you need it to and if you don't like blaze orange it comes in just about any color. Hope this helps anyone thinking about doing it and is apprehensive like I was.

It will be interesting to see how much it lasts. As for wearing the GPP I really don't understand how people use them, maybe they use it as a shovel. No idea, I have never even scratched mine. I have used it quite and if I took a picture of it, it would be just as the first day.

I Plasti-dip every pinpointer I have/had, and it keeps the tip in perfect shape. I used the can to dip it in rather than the spray kind, and it lasted a year so far. But then again I am fairly careful with it. As to how people use them, I'm guessing the scraping bar encourages them to use it as a digger in the hole, but damaging the tip can affect its ability, so I refrain from that even with the coating.

Yep, was going to use the kind in the can that you dip but they only had one color in stock at the local Lowes. Don't remember what that color was but I didn't want it so I figured I try the spray kind. It is pretty forgiving and you don't have to get perfect coats or anything. Stuff seems fairly durable. Just seems a sensible way to protect and prolong the life of an investment.

You can do the same with truck bed liner.

Plasti dip has definetly come a long way there are many many colors out there flats, matte, glosifiers, ect seems like everyday I'm hearing more & more uses on detecting equipment, even car/truck stuff do it right can even do your rims to ur car I've seen it also seen people do there entire car, so if it can stand up to a car or rims with the heat it should very well protect the pinpointer, & if you don't like it peel it do it again or different color whatever you want

Garrett puts that "scraper" along the side of the pin pointer specifically to imply that it is OK dig with it. That way you wear it out, then they get to sell another one. I might be paranoid though.

might plasti dip my coil hmmmm

oh ik all.my friends dip there cars might try it

Well naturally I want to pin this on Pinterest great idea!

I have used plasti-dip on every prop pointer I have ever owned. I go one step further...I wrap a piece of electrical tape around the speaker to stop it from getting plasti dip in the holes. I then completely wrap the end cap seperately in electrical tape, then I dip the entire thing twice (one end at a time up to the middle). This has the effect of completely waterproofing the pointer just in case you happen to drop it in the water or get it wet. I have tested mine and left in in the sink for over three days and it was completely dry and worked fine since. You can get cans of Plasti-dip at any local Home Depot or Ace Hardware. I use the dip cans instead of the spray on kind. If you dont want to completely cover your pointer, you can dip just the end and it will protect the end very well. Good luck!

might plasti dip my coil hmmmm

That is actually a really good idea. I may try that as well. I saw where one guy was silicone glueing all the edges of his coil covers to keep mineralized dirt from getting inside, plasti dip would not only stop that from happening but eliminate the need for a coil cover all together.
