Hello everyone im new to the forum . and i was hopeing someone here could give me some info on the keys diveing . I understand there is alot of leased waters in the area there and i also know not to be in those areas with a metal detector . but i was wanting to know if there was like areas around the leased ares that a family could go diveing with a detector for vacation i have a passion for adventure and this would be great if i can find a small place to do this with the family but we dont want to get in any trouble by no means That seems to be a very big business there around the keys but then again the ocean is a very big place surly the whole ocean there isnt leased LOL Any help would be great I know there are some people takeing folks out to wreck sites for money but we would like to venture alone that way we can do as we wish or come and go as we wish

The Florida Keys and the waters surrounding them, have been designated as a Marine Sanctuary by the State of Florida. This means that there is to be no searching with a metal detector underwater, no disturbing of wrecks or removal of any items found. There may be exceptions to these rules, that if a significant shipwreck find is made, one might be able to file salvage rights and salvage the cargo. However, I am not sure that if a significant shipwreck find is made, that the State of Florida will grant such salvage rights! Therefore in the Florida Keys, "what gets in your' pants, stays in your' pants", at least until you get the hell out of Florida and I don't mean some of the locals, if you know what I mean!:icon_scratch::laughing7:

I heard that the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS) is under federal jurisdiction and you have to go to the feds to get a permit to excavate. Much easier than the state. There are several active federal permits in force right now.

Permit? I don't need no Stinking Permit!
