The only state in New England that allows private salvage is Massachusetts. They have a very reasonable permit process, I am currently the archaeologist for several permit holders. Just Google: Mass Board of Underwater Archaeology.

Who would claim them? I wouldn't want anybody to know I had a pirate in my family.

There is a supposed descendant of Anny Bonny out there (possibly here on treasurenet) whose family won't release papers proving the connection. If I were related to her I'd want that story out!

I personally have a family link to Lancelot Blackbourne, the preacher-turned-pirate at the turn of the 17th century. Kinda cool to think there's a drop of pirate blood in me.
