I you're finding clad you should find silver, that is, if it's there. it's been fifty years since silver coins were minted. That's a long time for detectorists to find them and there isn't any renewal.

Dumb luck is awesome.

It's not the machine (or settings) as much as it I the spot. If you are finding clad, then you will find silver, IF it is at the place that you are hunting.

The biggest trick is to hunt where there are silver coins. So far there has not been a detector constructed with the feature that points you to just those sites.

Maybe in Long Range Locators? :laughing7:

Thanks , I'll try harder. Maybe even read the manual again !

Point being a detector doesn't know one metal from another. It's just a device that measures relative resistivity and conductivity in relation to the surrounding soil with parameters set to favor flat & round coin shaped objects. EXCEPT iron, ferric minerals, cause a negative phase shift while other metals - lead, gold, silver, aluminum, cause a positive phase shift. A clad quarter of 93% copper 8% nickel looks JUST like a 90% silver 10% copper "silver" quarter to a detector.

Better detectors will have better programming and decision making circuits, but they still don't know silver from clad when it comes to dimes and quarters.
