Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
I have been hunting with determination the last two months and finding almost nothing. It is dry and hot, but these places have produced before.
So I am posting something I found last summer when things were sluggish and it really picked up my spirit. It was before I was a member of Treasurenet that I found this. IMAG1257.jpg The ring was near an old houseplace and had two files with it. Guess he was sharpening a shovel. The ring was black when I found it, so I" had a jeweler clean it to see if it was precious metal, but not precious this time.

Very cool find! :occasion14:

Looks good as gold now! Nice to know its got some age to it. How old was the homesite?

I found little material there , but there was an old homesite from the late/middle 1800s. A metal can with lead seal was found nearby which I think could have been military stores so maybe Civil War period.

From my digging, plated rings were very common back in the day. I don't know if they were sold as plated or if there were a lot of fakes back then. I do know that of all the old places I have hunted, the deep, old rings are almost always brass.

Well crap...my wife just dug something similar to this at a late 1800's school. We thought it was a bearing or whatever they survived amazingly well and the edges were not very rounded. The more ya know....

Great find alabama11.
