Hey guys! Found my first pewter button today! Big question is, do you guys see anything on it? I feel like I see something, but I can’t really tell. At one angle, I almost see a crown, which reminds me of a royal provincial button. Any help ID’ing this button would be greatly appreciated and thank y’all so much for looking. Also, the last photo is an image of another RP button I found on here just to show where I am coming from.

I can see something at the centre running towards the 10-12 o'clock (Halfway mark) Still pretty hard to read what is what.

I agree. If slanted slightly, it almost appears to be a crown. I also noticed what looks like the letters EGT near the middle.

What's the light brown crud, will anymore of it come off?
I’m honestly not sure. I’m guessing just a product of the soil it was in. I’ll try cleaning it a little more to see if there’s anything else. Also, I went ahead and circled the crown, so it might be easier to see.

I see what appears to be two letters. R P? Nice Save on the button. Best of luck to you with the ID.

My area of military button knowledge is centered on the civil war, which includes 40 years before to 40 years after. That being said... I seem to see a Royal Crown with the letters RP below it. That would suggest your pewter button find is a RevWar era British "Royal Provincials" uniform button. The RP was a British Loyalist regiment, composed of American colonists who remained loyal to the British government.

Awesome! This is what I thought it was. Thank you CannonballGuy and everyone else who assisted with the ID!

Cannonballguy is correct. It is a Royal Provincials button used by Loyalist forces during the war. They were Americans by birth who chose to fight for Britain. At the end of the war most of them left the US.
That's the sites we hunt up here of the Loyalist settlers, and the land grants that they received.
We have the Loyalist Parkway even.

The 3rd picture shows the crown and RP clearly. Royal Provincials it is. Great old find. I have found just a few here in "Loyalist land" (where many settled after leaving the breakaway colonies). Suggest sealing it so that it remains intact.

Most of the one's I've seen posted on here are from Canada, so this one makes a change.
