Had a 10 VDI on the Manticore today. It was a sweet loud signal that showed as deep. Turned out to be about 10 inches. I actually thought it was going to be another shotgun head stamp from the sound. Cleaned out the hole and found the item pictured. Looks familiar, I found a lead pewter button a few months ago. This looks darn close to that button. P1001008_WM.jpgP1001009_WM.jpg

Thanks for looking...

. Iron shanks were attached to pewter buttons after 1800 . for the most part pewter buttons fell out of fashion in the 1820s

CRUSADER, where can I find documentation for these buttons? I have Gordon Bailey's book (Buttons and fasteners 500BC-AD 1840), although I didn't see anything about the iron shank on the lead/pewter. Also, DAACS Cataloging Manual makes no mention of iron shanks on the pewter buttons. Since I've found two on the same property, they must have been common in the early days of our township (mid 1700's).

Thanks...

I've had loads, but no idea where they are referenced other than Rev War books, although they only normally show the faces.

Thanks, I'll have to look for some Rev War uniform books. I have tons of Civil War reference material from when I did living history but no Rev War.

I don't own any as they are very pricey.
