Detecting is much like fishing because when you struggle to find a good spot & nothing good is feeding, you have to knuckle down & make it happen; work for it & hope that all will come good again. This time of year is tough but the farmers misfortune is in our favour. Almost half of a oilseed rape field had failed, problem was it was not a known site & the weeds had grown up 2 foot high. I wasn't very keen on doing this today but we had found a couple of scrappies last hunt, so all to play for.
I did 5 hours, Dad 3 hours:

12 scrappies
Tudor Mount
Roman Lead Steelyard Weight
Royal Welsh Fusiliers (RWF) Shoulder Badge (WWI?)
Tiny frangment of a French Hammered Coin:sadsmiley:
Large 1550-1650 Winged Cherub Tinned Buckle (great surviver of the plough & my first of this type):headbang:

Very Nice, Crus .. Great hunt! Thanks for sharing!

That turned out to be a great hunt. Roman coins, hammered silver, and that gorgeous buckle. Outstanding assortment!

Good job Crusader! Love seeing the big variety of OLD finds.

Very nice cherub buckle! ;-)

Wow, nice. Would love to see England and MD there. I go bonkers when I find something from the 1800's but then again we are much younger than you Britt's :)

Yep, sometimes it all gets pretty tiring/frustrating. At least, it used to until I called a halt to it. When my time finally became my own again, I did what I said I would always do, hunt full time! I was happy as a lark! But, ya know what? I started to get tired of going. I know, IMPOSSIBLE! :)

I stopped and figured out that I had turn this hobby into just another job. I was going when I shouldn't but couldn't stop. So, I set limits. Not to go when tired, quit digging before I'm worn out and NEVER go if I don't REALLY want to go. All of a sudden it was all fun again! LOL

Didn't matter if I had a "hot spot" nor a lot of "good" finds. I was relaxed and enjoying myself again regardless. Guess what? The finds came back! No matter where I went. Barbers, Civil War relics, even broke into the 1700's!

You ALWAYS have excellent finds to share here. Just don't make it into a job. Unless, it is your job. ;)

Thanks for sharing!

HH!

Nice mix of finds -as usual ! I'm trying to envision the number of cases (rooms I imagine ) needed to house your entire buckle
collection - Actually I think you'd need Buckingham Palace to lay out all the buttons you've found !!

Great cherub buckle ! by the way, what took you so long to ID the tiny section of hammered ? HaHa !!
