Pensacola, Florida Cache

I am updating this per your request. I contacted the present owner by phone, and email (no response either way). The message on the answering machine was sort of odd, so after she did not call me back, I dropped this one. A few months later, someone from the forum named "Adam" asked if he could follow up, and give it a shot himself, so I spent some time in finding out her name and the address again, and gave the information to him. He is in the Navy, as well, if this helps identify him more. I was in the Marines, so I am glad to help a fellow serviceman out. I believe that he said that he would get down there again in July. Adam, if you read this, rest assured that there is not anyone else who is following up on this, but we'd all like to know the end of the matter for sure. I have not checked this site out in months because I have been away from the computer because of a job change, and I don't have one at home right now (lightening took out the last one). Take care! -John

Thanks for the update JohnRoy.

I hope your friend finds a bunch of silver dollars for you guys.

All my contacts down there dried up. A few years ago we could of had a good search party over there pretty fast. I live in Michigan and can't get down there very often.

And too, I suspect "problems" with the owner. It's always so much nicer when these things turn up on unwatched state lands. ;)

IF THE PERSON THAT STARTED THIS THREAD COULD EMAIL ME WITH THE ADDRESS ILL GO OVER THERE MY SELF AND CHECK IT OUT. PLEASE BE SO KIND AS TO REACH ME ASAP!!!! THANX JEFF.

Okay, everyone, I have just emailed "Jeff" down there in Pensacola with the exact information that I had about this possible "cache" of money. I will tell the rest of you that my boss lived in the 900 block of West Belmont Street in case you can get permission from the other owners to search their property. Daniel Gant, my former boss, grew up there in the early 60s, and was out in the back yard "treasure hunting" when they came across a large metal box that they quickly buried again, fearing that it was a coffin. He had found two silver Morgans in the yard at an earlier time. That is all I have...

Kindly,
John

Any news on the story Jeff? I would love to know if anyone has had any luck with this story. Thanks guys and gals.

Could be a good lead but I was just thinking about this some more and I would not be supprised if it was a coffin for a dog or such that people often bury in there yards.

most people dont go through the hassle of obtaing a foot locker to bury a dog......or square up the hole when you can just dump em in the glades. the gators'll do the rest.

Jeff...if you need help let me know. I live on the east side near Summit Blvd and Scenic Hwy. As you probably already know, the 900 block of W. Belmont can be challenging if you know what I mean. Let me know what the street number is and I will see if my mom can work out something with them - she's on the historic preservation board :-).

Ok Folks, the verdict is in!

I contaced JohnRoy a few weeks ago asking for the info because I would be in Pensacola before Thanksgiving. He graciously gave me the info and it happened to be only 5 minutes away from my brother's house where I was staying. The house itself (and others around it) no longer exists, but it was easy to find which vacant lot was the correct one based on the numbers of the adjacent homes. The ground was overgrown with weeds, vines, and there was a big tree with what looked like the remains of an old tree house or something on it. My brother and I patiently and with all determination searched the lot as much as we could, and we dug up alot of stuff, but no metal box or cache of any kind. None of the things we found were really special, an old frying pan, a piece of a transmission, lots of junk and a couple of pennies. We did our best and our conclusion is that if there was anything there it's gone now. Thanks for the info JohnRoy, it was an adventure!

I live in the pcola area and would like a shot at this if you would give me the info Thanks

I'm near P'cola and I have 2 deep seeker MD's. A t-hound and A 40" coil P.I. unit. If its there I can find it. If anyone or both of you get the info and want me to deep seek MD it for you ,email me.

That's what I was thinking mustag, a PI with a BIG coil. A 30 year old story told from a memory as a young boy...that box might be much smaller than we all think. Your PI and coil would find it if it was 4 feet deep I bet, especially since it's been in the ground for 30 years! Give up that address, and let's see if the pulse can find it, I love the story.

We should come up with a clever way to let everyone know if anyone has come up with a cache like this. I am sure that the gov't would be very interested in an individual finding a large cache of silver or gold and want to take or tax it. Personally, if anyone here does find this "Pensacola Cache", I would hope that they keep their trap shut and dump the coins they don't want in their collection one by one...

We already have a clever wat of doing that. It's the little ;) symbol. I recently returned from a trip to Belize...I did some treasure hunting there, but I didn't find anything. ;)

After Musstag goes to this site with his PI detector, he might say something like "Well guys, I found the metal box, dug it up, but it was full of old clothes. ;)

:D

I think we should get Geraldo Rivera involved on this one since he did so well with Capone's vault
::)

I dunno Tom, I did see some DIRT at that site...and Geraldo is quite adept at finding boxes full of dirt. He might just be our man...but I doubt we can get the press as involved....unless of course this is Al Capone's old box...of dirt. :D
