so i have officially gone through almost all 75 cent boxes at my local bank and got down through the pile to older codes on the boxes. they have gradually gotten better to the point where older coins come much more frequent. (including another 1906 IHC) todays 2 boxes held a combined 51 wheats with a substantial amount pre 1940... 17 in total.

The 2 firsts I had today were i got my first king george V penny 1936 :)
and the second is my oldest ender being a 1913 wheat

1913
1915
1918
1923

1928
1929X2

If it is the real deal don't settle for anything less than full market value - put it in a heritage auction!!!

HH,

$ilver$urfer :hello:

haha i'd try and take it for all its worth...

Wow :icon_thumright: Amazing find! Certainly worth getting looked at by a professional in Canadian Coins.

AGBlex,

Wow that could be an incredible find. With only 3 known examples, you'd rake in some serious dough and become a coin collecting celebrity.

Best of luck in getting it authenticated!!

HH,

if we're talking house money.. that is almost insane.. thank god Cassie got that box

the gf scores again - maybe really big this time. :)

Good thing you posted such a nice pic of it above so LT-M could spot - the - dot (hopefully). I don't know much about foreign coins so I wouldn't have known about it either.

good luck - I hope it's the real deal. :)

Btw, did you all hear about the 1793 large cent the recently sold for $1.3m. I guess it's the most valuable US cent. I sure hope you've got yourself a valuable Canadian cent.

dude she always pulls through. we did pretty well tonight as well with 3 boxes. no crazy money though.

yeah i read a few of those articles on that penny and man... grab that out of a reject tray lol we all can dream.

its looking pretty promising the more i look at it.
historical feeling;)

thank a bunch man you're one of the last few good ones on the forum

Wow man thats amazing. I lived in Canada for a couple years so I have a sweet spot for Canadian coins. Do keep us in the loop on this.

I would first go to a coin shop and perhaps an expert who knows Canadian coins.

Then send off to PCGS for evaluation.

Keep in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if people try to create these rarities. I recall people with fake 1922 cents out there and so forth.

The 1980 Kennedy Half looks like a CUD.

I hope for your sake it's legit. If it was, it'd be banner for sure.

thanks for the info on the half i was hoping it was the rim is perfect that is the only reason i thought it might be.

I have contacted a few canadian coin guys around here and am trying to set up an appointment.

I'd love to make the banner. that's been my goal since i've been on this site;)

plus for a penny:) only way you could beat that is if it fell out of the sky haha:)

Here's hoping that coin is the real thing

I hate to rain on your parade but the likelihood of you finding an authentic 1936 dot cent is as good as none. Now don't get me wrong, I would be thrilled for you if that were an authentic 1936 dot but chances are it is just a regular 1936 cent. I have here my Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian coins, the most reputable Canadian coin reference book and here is some of what is said about the 1936 dot cent. It has been recorded that there were officially/supposedly 700,000 of these minted and numerous circulated examples have come into light over the years and many have been sent for authentication but none have been deemed "the real deal." The main grading service in Canada is know as ICCS and although they are the most common grading service found in Canada and out of the Canadian grading services the most popular one thing they hate doing is acknowledging rare varieties. A reason for this is because if they deemed all the 1936 dot cents they have got sent to them authentic then there would be thousands known instead of just 4 and they would be worth a few hundred at most instead of a few hundred thousand. So bottom line don't trust ICCS with rare varieties, but in order for your coin to be worth lots it would need to be certified. Now this 1936 Dot variety was discovered by the collecting world in 1940 when the small dot was noticed on some 1936 quarters. I happen to own one of the quarters that are not as rare and are more common, but still very rare. The 1936 Dot quarter can be found in almost any grade where as the 1936 Dot cents and Dot dimes, the few of which are known to be authentic, are only found in mint state. This has lead to a wide spread suspicion that either none or very few escaped to circulation. Very often when dealing with this type of rarity people just want to believe that they are the one who has found the one coin that will make them rich so they convince themselves they see this little mark that resembles a rare variety. The dot on my quarter which is authentic looks different than the dot on your cent which is in question. Many coins wear down in a way they might resemble a dot. Sure it may look as though you have a dot on your coin but is there actually any raised metal? It is always worth having an expert look at it but in my best judgment and based on the facts you just have an ordinary 1936 canadian cent. There is too much mystery surrounding this variety in denominations other than the quarter. I strongly urge you not to get excited before an expert gives you his opinion on it. I truly believe that again, you just have an ordinary 1936 cent but I am still curios as to know how this all turns out for you. I'm on your side but the odds are against you. Good luck.

Is ICCS the only service that would grade or certify Canadian coins?
