"Penn" logo - SOLVED Penn Mortise Lock

Hi once again. I was back at the old home site today and found some interesting things including this "what's it". I doubt that there is enough of the item there to id it completely but I am trying to figure out who the company is/was and what they made. It is made out of steel or iron as a magnet sticks to it. It has the work PENN on it. I originally thought that it might be part of a Penn fishing reel but I could not find a logo like this at all (not even on some of the original boxes from the 1930's). I have found a lot of old automobile parts in this area along with old lamp/lantern parts and possibly some buggy parts. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

To me it kind of looks like part of an old fishing reel, and there is a company called PENN that makes them but the logo does not match up right, try goggleing Penn to see what i mean.

Could be something made by the penn tool company. It looks from the pin on the back as though it was spring loaded, and considering it pivoted on the open hole, it may have been a fragment of protective cover off of a table saw.

It does look fishing related now that I study it a little longer. The other side of the logo is where the spring attached for the "clicker" By moving the lever shown on the reel you would have the option for a silent or click retrieve. The click is useful to prevent backlash and a reminder you are dispensing line. I have worn a few of those reels out. :D

I was originally thinking off of a reel but I cannot find a logo that matches this one. Does anyone have an example of this logo on any Penn fishing equipment, papers, boxes etc.?

Thanks,
Doug

Remember Mike, this is against a D battery. Measuring from the center hole to the farthest edge, and then visualizing a circle, this thing would be far too huge if it was part of a reel. As well, it is made of cheap base metal, and added to that there is a lot of rrust in the pivot hole.

Yep, great ID there BCH. Funny thing is that after you posted that image it refreshed my memory of seeing that same logo while doing a search for some other door hardware here on WII.
