By chance did he/she offer to buy it since it wasn't real? Breezie
Agreed.
I would be VERY wary of someone who offers to buy something if it isn't real, if that's what you are inferring.
Conversation might play out like this:
Jewelry "expert'" : "Did you take this anywhere else" (Red flag), or "did you buy it"
You: No.
Jewelry expert; "No, it's not real, but I might be able to sell it, I'll give you......"

ALWAYS get at LEAST two opinions on stuff like that.
just my .02

Amen!

No offer to buy. Redford Coin & Jewelry is a very reliable place. They offen look at items our members find. They have cleaned up several rings and straighten them for me at no cost to me. One of them even attends most of our meetings.

Thank you Degries for informing us of the outcome. Someone mentioned that it looked plated and the base metal can be seen on the backside but I guess everyone was hoping the best. Pictures can be deceiving.

I was told it looks like it may be silver plated and the stones most likely are not real :(.
I use a Potassium Dichromate/Nitric acid solution to test metals and it removes any doubt as to what "looks like" gold or silver.
