The county I live has set aside as much as 50% of its area to open space land, which makes for a lot of land to remain undeveloped. Driving around in a vehicle on the jammed up roads and highways you can never really see much of it, but they put in miles of bike path to connect these open spaces. These are some of the sites along these pathways. I often just get on my bike and head out to these open spaces and with a smartphone I can sit down on a bench under a shade tree next to a small creek and enter orders, create purchases orders, text, email and receive calls all from that quiet peaceful bench. Of course I still keep a pen and pad on hand. Don't think we'll ever see a day where that's a completely antiquated system in the act of multitasking. That way still seems a lot less complicated to me than all the make your life gadgets we have today can do for ya.

That is a beautiful area! I am so jealous. Nothing but cornfields here.

We got em also. I'll bet money I can find places similar to what I've posted, within miles of where you're at. I lived in Illinois when I was a young crawdad hunter. There's beauty all around you there in the Land of Lincoln.

True. No mountains in the distance though! And would have to ride further than I could pedal! :laughing7:

Here in Summit County we have 55 miles of maintained recpaths and lots of open space, mainly where they don't have the engineering technology to actually build second homes, townhouses, condos on that particular piece of land yet. Recpaths here these days have pretty much become the domain of rich second home owners, everybody from the front range who thinks they look good in spandex, and visiting tourists who can go back to the office in Houston and casually mention 'mountain biking in the mountains'. Not a big deal for me, cause I don't take the beaten path. One thing, if I was walking on that recpath and Tamrock came along on his bike behind me, he would probably be decent enough to call out 'On your left!'.

Yeah I'd give a warning, but being my wife got me my bike maybe 12 years ago for under $400. I more than likely never go up and show off on those recpaths, cuz I'd feel out of place in shorts and a tshirt pedaling along amongst all those uppedy folks in their high tech outerwear and $6000 machines. The trails around here don't see a lot of traffic on the weekdays and that makes for a bit of peace and quiet in this bustling area. I can almost get away from all the noise of the traffic, but still there's airliners and helicopter always going overhead. Seeing what wildlife is around that can also find a place of their own is nice. I can observe Bald eagles, kestrel, red tails, coppers hawks, great horn owls, burrowing owls, ospreys and one and a while a peregrine falcon. The sight of such things is always a delight.

You'd do fine here TR but you'd be out there about daylight with the locals. Never turn a head. Plus people greeting you. That changes after about 9 a.m. I stay off of them, but it is entertaining to see Slim and those longboarders come down from Copper to Frisco. They seem to be able to steer a little, but they don't have no brakes. They will clear that path out. They may be banned from them now.

very nice beautiful pictures..it’s good to hear that there is protected land around you..I have been to Kansas years ago and would like to also visit Colorado

Take your detector with you?
I have before, but I really haven't found much other than old iron, which is fun the ponder over on what it once was.
