Patiently Awaiting New AT Pro!

Finally the AT Pro impresses me a little today.

Started the day with the ATP until it tired me out. Switched to the Vx3 w/D2 coil and continued on.
Came across a deeper signal about 8". The vdi was kinda jumping around a little and switching between a mid and high tone almost like there were two separate targets such as a zinc & a copper. After analyzing what info the Vx3 was giving me, I guessed it was a wheat penny with some trash near it. I marked the spot and switched back to the ATP for a comparison.
The ATP sounded off much better and was only locking on to one signal. Vdi was coming in at 79-80. Pinpointing it came in at 8". I dug it and sure enough a 1948 Wheat popped out.
First impressing thing I've seen with it. Now only if I wanted to keep using it. So far I have more negative things to say about it than good.
Great info. How was the atp set up?

Pro mode custom or zero I don't recall. I play in both. Sens one bar off max.

Do u recal What the iron audio was on if u do use it?

I dug a signal yesterday, and it had the low, high, low sound. I thought it was a bottle cap (sounded like it in iron audio) The but VDI showed 78-81 @ 6 inches. When I dug it ,I first got a tiny piece of alum can slaw, but there was more in the hole, according to the Pro Pointer,so I dug a little deeper, and found a nail. I removed it,and then got another reading in the hole. About 1 inch deeper in the hole I found a quarter! The iron, and can slaw caused the VDI to read a little lower,on the quarter. I was using "Zero" Pro Mode, with the iron discrimination set at 25. I think this is my favorite mode on the ATP so far. This was with the stock 8.5X11 DD coil,I have the 5X8 coil coming, and can hardly wait to try it out. When I first got the ATP I had a few "concerns" about it,but now after putting around 70hrs. on it,I've found most of them were "operator error"! There IS a learning curve,on it! Once the "lingo",and proper settings, sinks in,it gives out more information, than a fat kid caught stealing candy at the five and dime store!LOL!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Once you learn it she'll talk sweet to you and it's on then. Tried that mod by the way. I didn't like it and switched back...thanks for the help though.

Yeah,I think everyone has their "favorite setup!" What works for one guy, doesn't mean it will be the favorite of another. I let my friend try out the ATP and he didn't like it in zero pro mode,so I switched it to standard coin mode, then he was running around sucki'n up coins like a vacume cleaner! LOL!

Guess I'll be ordering the 5x8 today in an attempt to get this machine balanced better. The ergonomics of this thing are almost as bad as the E-Trac. At least the ET has an excuse being almost 2lbs heavier.

Anyone have side by side real comparison data between the 5x8 & 8.5x11?

John Edmonton has some I believe but I guarantee you will see the difference in balance within seconds. Some say they only lose about an inch in depth at most some say more.....I believe that has more to di with soil conditions. My machine with the 5x8 in moist(not saturated) soil actually has no loss in depth that I notice. Dry soil maybe an inch tops but that depends on trashiness and minerals too. What sets the 5x8 apart is its ability in trashy areas. Its well worth the money in my opinion and I only just recently swapped back to stock to cover more ground.

The 5x8 creates a nearly perfectly balanced unit. I came from a BH Platinum which was super light and balanced. The ATP with the stock coil did feel unbalanced at first. The 5x8 felt identical to the BH which wad lighter. I lost the unbalanced feeling of the stock unless I swing the 5x8 for awhile

I hope so. I should have my new 5x8 tomorrow. If it doesn't balance to my liking or shows a significant depth loss, the ATP is otta here!

Well If its not to your liking shoot me a pm with a price. I wont be holding my breath waiting for it though :) .

27-28 I think. I'm running it in Pro Zero almost all the time now though.

Haven't received my new coil yet, but the ATP is starting to talk to me now. It's super simple to use and I like that it's almost turn on and go. Just throw in Pro Zero, GB & run the sens as high as the area allows. I'm now finding (I can't believe I gunna say this) it easier to pick the good out of the masses of iron than on my Vx3. The Pro Zero mode was a bit distracting at first but now I'm seeing the brilliance of it.
I really wish the build quality didn't suck as it does and the plug layout was a more thought out. That said, I'm trying really hard to view this as a $600 build and not a $1200 build. Hard to drive a Camry when you're use to a Mercedes even if the performance is similar.

Almost a fan!

Ya know What Man i do honestly i feel the same way I got the pro & the v3i usualy I grab the pro if its just a quick go out & play kinda day but for my researched spots where I wanna find all & get my time in research to pay off I grab the v3i so i do know What ur saying. Its kinda crazy seeing a 600 detector keep up with the almost 1800 ones & thats y I like it & for now its still here, well & the Wide likes it lol

She better not see that or you'll be sleeping on the sofa!

Fella I run both coils in Pro Zero mode with Iron Discrim at 35. In the clay soil in which I live, I dug a sterling ring an easy twelve inches down underneath an old 1800 nail and the Pro told me it was there. The first thing I noticed when I got the 5 x 8 beside the weight difference was how quiet it is. I mean that coil doesn't pop, beep, nothing until you have a target and if there is a bunch of junk you can zero in on the good target quite easily. I did put the stock coil back this past weekend because I am doing a large area and I thought I could cover more ground, bad mistake. The coil made the machine heavy and it took more work to locate the good targets amongst the bad. I will tell you this, the 5 x 8 stays on my machine unless I am going in water or something. Again, not a perfect machine but for the price and what it does it works for me. And with my Milspec cover on it, it really looks bad ass now. LOL!

5x8 came today. It's on, I'll report later.

If my stance on garretts bother you so bad just put me on ignore....maybe some poor kid out there has been saving his milk money and cant wait to buy a at pro because of all the great things people like you say about them....then the kid gets the at pro after saving his money so long and waiting just to find out its a water proof ace 350 and a dig all machine with piss poor discrimination....No ty christo i will add my 2 cents anytime i feel like it this is america last i looked if you dont like it dont read it

Ah so the truth finally comes out..poor kid spent up all his milk money on the AT Pro and couldn't figure out how to properly utilize it's features...now he's on a life long Garrett hating temper-tantrum:laughing9:

I wondered before why you spent so much time whining about this machine instead of actually learning it's functionality..you've solved that mystery for me once and for all CrustyNails.

HH those bottlecaps.

I applaud the action that was taken. I came to this site because there was virtually non of the type of behavior I witnessed from that user. Keep up the good work!

Dusty was asked to back off of Garrett, this is Garrett forum, instead of backing off he challenged the mod who is doing his job and said to ban him....

Dusty is on a 1 week timeout .
