After being so busy all winter and this spring, I finally got out to a few new places I've acquired lately. I'm a huge chicken s##t at door-knocking, however, on my way to one permission I saw an OLD house which I suspected as being a log home, with a newer house built around it. Seeing the owner out in the yard, I wheeled in. He came right over, SUPER nice guy. I asked him about the house, and yes, log home built 1804. He asked me if I wanted a tour...I don't even think I opened my door and just jumped out the window...omg, awesome inside. It was in bad shape from years of neglect, and in a few areas where the lathing had came off, you could see the exposed logs, with the cherry bark still intact! The huge stone fireplace was built in a manner that it serviced 2 different rooms. The owner lives in a modern house beside it. Having free rein to hunt, I snatched my gear out and got to detect for 30 mins until a huge storm rolled in. 2nd signal was a Mercury dime with a lot of tarnish, I handed it to the owners 5-6 yr old grandson and explained that it was a silver dime, and he could clean it up and make it nice. Gramps was impressed and gave me permission to hunt any time! The heartbreak find was the silver dollar sized, reeded-edged James Garfield token. Seeing the reeded edge in the hole almost stopped my heart, along with the fact that it really looked silver, but knew otherwise as it was very light, aluminum. Also puzzling was the fact that aluminum will usually tarnish or pit when in the ground a while, (was about 6-7" deep), and was almost perfect. I'll be back there very soon! The other finds were at a couple private houses in town, one built 1880's, the other 1940. The ring was found at the fairground parking lot, along with the V-nickel and Scout kerchief slide. Thx for looking, was glad to have some worthy items to post, Ddf.

The ring looks really nice. Your neckerchief slide is an older style general Cub Scout slide.

Well done on the finds, and good show giving the youngster a silver coin. If you get them hooked early, they will become lifelong users!
Carolina Tom must have worked for big tobacco! Hook em young hook em for life :)

What about the ring? It looks nice, what is it? and the Hatchet??? Inquiring mind :)

Ok, sorry...was bunching various finds together from more than one site. The little silver hatchet, I only have the one half but I'm sure it was a pin, one if my favorite finds. The ring-found at our fairgrounds parking lot (can't hunt the grounds!) marked .925 and cleaned up nice...thx, Ddf.

A very nice collection of finds dirtdigginfool! That ring looks like a beauty!

Congrats on your finds especially the new friends you made by asking for permission.

permissions can really be awesome in more ways than one. love that hatchet

Hey Jerry, thx very much! Great to see you lurking here, I'm betting while you're enjoying looking here, it's killing you not getting out. When did the Dr tell you that detecting would be safe? Here's hoping for your speedy recovery, Ddf.

lurking is right LOL. I have a hard time getting comfortable sitting, especially getting up but it is what it is, could be a lot worse. 3-4 weeks for light duty, 10lb limit. said 6 wks but we shall see. So I guess that you and the others are going to have to step it up! Jerry

Ha! I step it up any more and ill need to pack my personal nurse to revive me! The heat and humidity are absolutely choking...maybe by the time you get the green light things will be better. I'll try to get out and post some shiny things for ya, take care, eat LOTS of Frosty's and get healed up! Ddf

Excellent hunt
