It does lok like bone to me, rather than shell. It's hard to tell from your pic wether it is human or animal. The shape and structure of the little holes/pockets you see on the inside are different in most animals than in humans. I think I see cut marks on the outside too. They may be from de-boning the animal, or scraping. Do you find lots of broken pottery there too? If so, you could have an old midden pile. Is it real brittle and chalky? If not, it might just be a more recent bone from an unfortunate animal.

Thanks for the reply. No, I have not found any old pottery yet & yes, this thing is chalky if you rub hard enough your finger gets white, I do have a old conch shell from FL & comparing with this, it's a different color & this is thicker. Interesting artifact anyway...I have it tucked in with my projectile points in a case.
