Ephemeral things (from Greek εφήμερος – ephemeros, literally "lasting only one day"[1]) are transitory, existing only briefly. Typically the term is used to describe objects found in nature, although it can describe a wide range of things.
In a recent post I lamented loosing a lot of data on my computer. Hundreds of saved emails, message, postings, tips and hints, locations, etc. Gone. Poof! Just like that.
Assume all your electronics are unusable. Maybe sunspot activity, natural disaster or any event where you are in the dark. Could you continue your business or career if you had to recreate your life manually. Could you start over using paper? Paperless sounds good until you desperately need it. If it's "Ephemeral" it could be gone forever.
As I try to rebuild from whatever backups I have, this time I promise myself to:
Due a automatic daily backup.
Print a hard copy of everything not reproducible manually. That is the only way to insure your stuff is safe.
Print those pix, emails, letters, family and friends notes etc.
Print your address book.
Print your links addresses. Can you remember all of them?
Print your database records. Yes there may be lot's of them, but could you replace the information manually?
Print your computer(s) configurations, software names, where your backups are stored, automatic web payment accounts, etc.
Print your online financial records.
Print your tax records. Ever been audited?
Those cool spreadsheets. What if those were gone. At least document the source of data and why you need it.
IMHO plan for a computer crash. DAMHIKT..........
