Hello All First Time Posting in the Forum,

I live in Massachusetts and just starting panning for gold last summer in VT. I have done a lot of research and looking at TOPO graphs and trying to understand what I am looking at and for.

My question is: Is there a chance to find gold wherever I can find bedrock?

The problem I am running into in the streams I am panning is mica, alot of it. There are alot of huge chunks of quartz rocks which I'm hoping is another sign there might be gold in the streams.

I've been looking where people have already found gold close to me and most of it is 5+hours which makes it hard to go every weekend, especially when gas is climbing well over 3.50 a gallon. So I'm trying to do more research on how and if I can find gold closer to me where it has never been found. I go out and take samples and bring them back to my house to pan out when I have the chance but no luck so far. I just found some bedrock here in MA about 20 mins away and will be going to take some samples once the snow clears up some more.

Any tips would be great for my searching!

Scott

I'm in!
I live in Amherst Ma (presently). I would be up for panning, gem hunting etc. I also spend considerable time in western Florida.
I used to be a white-water raft guide for Zoar Outdoor, led family-based trips for the Sierra Club, and have hiked about 90% of the Appalachian Trail, among other things; like having a B.A in archaeology (UMASS) where I did my field school in Peru, and studied biology in Venezuela (really just trying to say that I'm pretty darn good outdoors, can do research, and happily tolerate really, crappy living situations). I'm 54 years old but still would love to hook up for day trips or even extended (deep backwoods OK) camping situations. I am a treasure hunter at heart, but the journey is a gem in itself. Please contact me with ideas or schemes! I am wide open for learning, exploring and hunting. contact me: [email protected] or 352 792-8680

I am spending A LOT of time in Marlborough now for work and would love to get out to a creek once the snow melts and the days are longer...yes?

I live in Marlborough and it is going to be 6 weeks before you can even get near a stream in Massachusetts
Nothing much in the immediate area but if you are local in mid to late April can take you out to the Ct River Valley

Oh I will be! Looking forward to it. Totally excited!!

How long a delay before you get to start replacing them? This service related, like jumping out of helicopters or something? Had a friend that ruined both of his doing that in VN. Hope you can get them replaced, do the rehab and then get to the creeks for gold prospecting this summer!

Love to have you along...when DO the new knees arrive?

Not sure at this point, my VA appt last month was heart related, I have my physical in June so will ask about starting to get things going then.

My service connected disability is on my hearing, 6 months on the firing squad and in the early 70's we didn't wear hearing protection. The knees weren't documented before I left the service so can't be taken as service connected. Yup, lots of jumping out of choppers and other planes but also lots of golf (LOL) and putting on weight since leaving the service.

It is not the years it is the mileage!!! :headbang:

But hey at least I am looking at the grass from the right side!

I've found color in RI and Southeastern MA, and I run a RI prospecting group on FB. Feel free to contact me if you're still in the game. Jeff
