Pallets of Door Hinges

I listed some of these on eBay in various lot sizes with "free" shipping the first week I got them. The lot sizes were based on what fit in a padded flat rate envelope or a medium flat rate box. I'm not in any hurry to sell and figured it was better to start out with higher prices. This week I was running a 25% off sale and added some of the hinge listings. Sold my 1st 2 lots this morning. Each lot fit in a medium flat rate box and were the entire contents of one of the case size boxes they came in. After fees, packing, and postage I cleared $22.50 per lot. Not a huge return but if I can sell the other 700+ boxes for that...…..

Just a thought. Have you thought of calling around to some of the restoration contractors & asking if they're interested or could pass the word what you got?

Another thought is Grandpa Snazzy's Hardware Phone, (303) 778-6508 · Address. 1832 S Broadway; Denver, Colorado 80210. Shipping might be prohibitive. But they used to buy or trade anything I took em. They seemed to be interested in everything. Be advised there's no parking for a pickup & trailer to easily get in.

With what you've done so far excellent job!!!

I am thoroughly enjoying reading this thread. Great score, great ideas, and great follow through. Good luck!

Locally there are mill work companies that actually fabricate doors (interior and exterior) that might be able to use them. It might be a matter of whether the hinges have rounded or square corners to facilitate routers with jigs and templates.

ps. It seems to me the brass ones might be the ones to takes the time to sell long term since they have the most value. But if the hinges sell for $2-$10 no matter the content may be not.

Maybe try an experiment to see which has the most demand and best offers if you still have any brass left.

We have a mill work company here that I haven't tried yet. I scrapped all the brass hinges after researching. Just wasn't much value over scrap. I still have some lots listed on eBay and have sold a couple hundred dollars worth. With over 700 cases left I still have a long way to go. I will post if I give up and scrap the rest.

Though I'd post an update on this one. To date I've sold over $6500 & still have 20,000+ hinges left. I've been selling $50-200 worth almost every month on eBay at $1 to $5 per hinge. At this rate it will take years to sell everything but there's a good bit of money in what's left. Total out of pocket was around $1400 & I'm fortunate enough to have a buddy that gave me free storage space in his warehouse.

I am in the window and door business. I don’t have a use for them but may be able to send you a couple names of distributors that may buy a few larger lots from you. If your interested post a picture so I know what we are looking at.

I appreciate the offer. I talked with a local mill works & they weren't interested. They needed more paperwork than I was able to provide. Licensing laws for small time junk/antiques biz here are fairly lax which is good for most of what I do but not so good for reselling to more mainstream companies. Here's a couple links to some of the hinges I have listed on eBay:

Hager Lot Of 4 1752 REVP Spring Hinges 3.5" Light Brass Finish Steel | eBay
