Made my annual trek up above the Mason Dixon line and
as always Pa. was kind to me again. Not only did I have a
very nice relaxing trip, I got to do something I've been wanting
to do for a very long time.

2016 (369).jpg

I was granted time to walk along side my grandson to
uncover a few finds with a metal detector.

He granted me a whole hour! Before it was time to move on
to something else! It's kind of sad. He has such a natural talent
for finding but, alas, it's not his favorite thing to do. That's his hand
up top. Notice the comparison in finds? LOL If he ever gets
serious about doing this, you guys better watch out! :)

Anyway, like I said, Pa is usually kind to me but like my grandson,
you northerners need to free up some time for the "better" things in life.
You're getting too busy! Even for visiting Dig-nitaries!! :BangHead:

I'd planned on doing a LOT of digging up there but, life just kept getting in the way.
Had a few buddies that had to beg off, too much to do. It didn't ruin anything
for me as my intention was to enjoy my family. And I did just that!

Still, I didn't JUST visit, ;) . I managed to get my coil to the soil a few other times.
In between events and/or waiting for everyone to get ready to go do something. :)

I even brought along my own sunshine! For you see, it had rained
for almost 19 straight days BEFORE I ventured north. As soon as I
got there, the weather went up to 90!!! It was sooooo hot that....

But, even that wasn't good enough. Pennsylvanians were still too busy. :dontknow:

Managed a few keepers anyway:

Even a rather large, 16.9 gr, .925, mangled ring.

The red stones are still both there and they both look
pretty good! They also look a whole lot more red in person
than they do in these pics.

2016 (361).jpg

All's well that ends well and my trip did just that, I truly
enjoyed my venture AND....I got a few niceties to boot! :)
Everybody seems to be happy! :)

Thank you for peeking! And thank you, Pennsylvania, for
a very nice trip!

Thanks for the post. It's good to make pleasant memories for yourself and the family. Sounds like your trip above the Mason Dixie line was a good one. Congrats

Great story and you are very fortunate with family unike some. Thanks for sharing but I do have a question and that is what's up with the beat up 70 or 79 dime? Looks to be a normal clad dime to me. Am I missing something like a beat proof silver coin or??

GL & HH ALL

Nope, you're not missing anything. It's just a clad dime. It was interesting to me
how someone had ground it down and polished it. Just looked strange. :)

What? Never took you for being a granddad whadifind?, always pictured you being younger then that. lol. Congrats on some nice finds and some quality time well spent.--HH

Thanks, but, since I've been doing this for nearly half a century, I suspect I satisfied the age requirements. ;) LOL
It was a VERY nice trip!

Sounds like a great time WHADI, nice you were able to make some finds and have quality time with your grandson.

Now i have get a coin & practice that! :)
It will tell me how much further i need to dig.
Greatest compliment i got from one of mine, she said i was interesting.
....of course, that maybe code for "the family detecting nut!" :D

That technique comes in handy. I even use it to further pinpoint finds that are 3-4 inches down, before I dig.

If that's being a nut, I qualify! :)

I've been called worse, Lol!

Very nice finds, but the best part was detecting with your grandson! :occasion14:

Looks like pa was very kind to you. the real treasure is the time spent with family, that silver dime has a cool tarnish on it, good job in PA, sorry the schedules didn't align and we didn't get in a hunt

They don't call PA a "Commonwealth" for nuttin', whadifind!! Great for you to get those precious moments with your grandson and family..........probably more memorable to you than the finds. And, that's quite a unique tip with the pin pointer..........thanks!!

That is a great haul.I would be very very happy.Good job!!!!

DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY BUT IT LOOKS AS IF FISHY AND BLINGIE ARE ABOUT TO START IN SOME KINDA ACTION MOVIE . THE LION OR BOAR IS A NEET FIND , AS FOR THE REST TOO . BOY THAT EGG NOW IS A CLASSIC ,'

Who knows WAF! Your Grandson may develop an interest years later. Kids today have many more distractions these days. At any rate, He will always remember his hunt with you. Nice recoveries in PA. HH, Q.
