Made my annual trek up above the Mason Dixon line and
as always Pa. was kind to me again. Not only did I have a
very nice relaxing trip, I got to do something I've been wanting
to do for a very long time.

2016 (369).jpg

I was granted time to walk along side my grandson to
uncover a few finds with a metal detector.

He granted me a whole hour! Before it was time to move on
to something else! It's kind of sad. He has such a natural talent
for finding but, alas, it's not his favorite thing to do. That's his hand
up top. Notice the comparison in finds? LOL If he ever gets
serious about doing this, you guys better watch out! :)

Anyway, like I said, Pa is usually kind to me but like my grandson,
you northerners need to free up some time for the "better" things in life.
You're getting too busy! Even for visiting Dig-nitaries!! :BangHead:

I'd planned on doing a LOT of digging up there but, life just kept getting in the way.
Had a few buddies that had to beg off, too much to do. It didn't ruin anything
for me as my intention was to enjoy my family. And I did just that!

Still, I didn't JUST visit, ;) . I managed to get my coil to the soil a few other times.
In between events and/or waiting for everyone to get ready to go do something. :)

2016 (368).jpg

I even brought along my own sunshine! For you see, it had rained
for almost 19 straight days BEFORE I ventured north. As soon as I
got there, the weather went up to 90!!! It was sooooo hot that....

2016 (367).jpg

But, even that wasn't good enough. Pennsylvanians were still too busy. :dontknow:

Managed a few keepers anyway:

2016 (364).jpg
2016 (363).jpg
2016 (362).jpg

Even a rather large, 16.9 gr, .925, mangled ring.

2016 (360).jpg

The red stones are still both there and they both look
pretty good! They also look a whole lot more red in person
than they do in these pics.

2016 (361).jpg

All's well that ends well and my trip did just that, I truly
enjoyed my venture AND....I got a few niceties to boot! :)
Everybody seems to be happy! :)

Thank you for peeking! And thank you, Pennsylvania, for
a very nice trip!

Some serious finds you & your grandson dug - glad you had a wonderful time and thanks for sharing your pictures and story with all of us. If you get a chance come visit Texas & bring your sun shine and stop our rain - anyway I wish you many more great finds while out dirt fishing.

Nice finds as Usual.
Cool you got time with your Grand Son
sorry it didn't work out for a hunt this time.
but under the circumstances my mind isn't on hunting :(

I still haven't heard back from the Garage on my Vehicle.
He promised to get back the Other night already :(
but not a Peep :( unfortunately that probably means he has no good news :(
so My summer may be over before it gets started .
I know how long it took last time to save up enough & find a vehicle that would pass inspection $500 plus every year for inspection doesn't leave much for saving. & then they suggest it can't be fixed anymore :(

Maybe "Jeff of Pa" needs to become "Jeff of Mn". There's NO vehicle inspection here - at least not in the areas I've lived (central and up here). Not positive about Minneapolis/St Paul though.

Nice finds Whadi. Glad you had time to spend with your Grandson. My Granddaughter use to go with me when she was younger. She will be 18 soon and has moved on to other things in life.

Looks like you had a great time Whadi, hunting with the grandson is something I'll never get to do. I only have 3 grand daughters. Glad to hear the rain stayed away during your trip. You certainly pulled some sweet keepers and a the clad haul.

Awesome!!! Finally some family detecting time!
I wondered where you went.:what:

You came away with a lot of silver, but the real "gold" was time spent detecting with the grandson, that is priceless!

He doesn't have the wisdom of a life of experience yet (telling the fake from the real). The very fact that he wanted to detect and enjoyed it is really awesome! He just needs to develope and fine tune his love of it. Hopefully life will give him the opportunity to do that.
If he has a collection of anything, thats helpful.

Well you certainly collected a lot of goodies to take home! Fishy is sporting new wheels! Blinging has some "lovely" bling, and you have golden memories. Many more i hope.

Fried eggs huh? Should we call you Mr. Sunshine? :D
The electrical tape on the thumb...you didn't let go of the Love pendant fast enough?:o
And an ever growing pile of clad! Congrats!

Maybe the lions eyes are rubies? In my phone pics they look pink.

I'm very glad you got to detect with the grandson and I know exactly what you mean by life kept getting in the way. :banghead:

I still haven't been able to clear my pm box, from my phone. I can't send or receive anything.
Have to get the family (when they have time) :( to help me. Last time they "helped" me, an app i use on my phone to open stuff...disappeared...:what::o:(

Congratz on a great trip! I'm glad that you got to go swinging with your grandson some! And your story was great as usual! Keep up the good work!

Good times Whadi with the young'un and a pocket full of keepers! I think the cool sterling ring could be straightened out with a jewelers' mandrel. (I need to get one too!) Sub 8-)

Thanks! Yep, it was a pretty special time. He has a detector, (Santa saw to that a while ago. ;) ) Still, to each their own, I will NOT be coercing, just giving the option. ;)

Now that I see the "eyes" on the ring in a natural light, they do appear to be pink. Pink rubies??? :dontknow:
In any case, the signal was a very clear 91 and I knew it was something good. But, when I got it out,
it was so mangled I had trouble figuring out just what. :) I'm happy with it, and why not? SEVENTEEN grams
of silver!? LOL

My grandson is great! He loves me, I know. Just that this isn't his "bag", yet. ;)

About the tape on my thumb? That's a trick I came up with to use with my pin pointer. If you use a coin
and slide it down the pinpointer correctly, you can extend the range. I just taped a dime to my thumb
so I didn't have to do that manually. It's inside my glove and when I need it, I just slide my thumb down
without having to take off my glove.

Thanks for noticing I was away, not many do. :dontknow:

"About the tape on my thumb? That's a trick I came up with to use with my pin pointer. If you use a coin and slide it down the pinpointer correctly, you can extend the range."
How's that again??

Basically, it works with the Garrett Pinpointer. You take a coin and slide it along the pointer from back to front. As soon as the pointer starts beeping you back the coin off just 'til it stops beeping and hold the coin there. It'll extend the distance detected a little further than the normal on state. Try it in the air at home. You'll see.

Now i have get a coin & practice that! :)
It will tell me how much further i need to dig.

There for a while i thought Blingie might be getting a bit... cranky.

One of the girls has a pink birthstone born in Oct. Tourmaline i think, but could be something else.

Few noticed? Are you kidding! We were waiting for our next "helpful detecting info" lesson!

And there it is! "How to get more depth on your Garrett pin pointer, cost, a dime"! And its refundable!

I know you don't coerce the grandkids, but it never hurts to point out connections that interest them. Maybe he likes pirates, space rocks, coin collecting, etc.
It is awesome he likes to spend time with you.
Greatest compliment i got from one of mine, she said i was interesting.
....of course, that maybe code for "the family detecting nut!" :D

Thanks Whadifind. I don't have a pinpointer, but I also bet I even if I did, I probably wouldn't have figured that tip out.

Great story and you are very fortunate with family unike some. Thanks for sharing but I do have a question and that is what's up with the beat up 70 or 79 dime? Looks to be a normal clad dime to me. Am I missing something like a beat proof silver coin or??
