1992 is when I started CW relic hunting here in VA, a late start, and as the years went by, it seemed I was many years too late to find any plates in these pounded sites around here. Found my share of CW history, in the form of buttons and bullets, etc... but no plates ever. I talked with many "old timers" that started diggin in the 60's...and they always told me, "we didn't get it all...most, but not all. Keep swinging." Well today I dug one they left behind. My 1st one and couldn't be more excited! It's a US cartridge box plate. A great day indeed! Thanks for looking and have a great evening. I'm gearing up for The Walking Dead...if I can stop looking at this. :laughing7:

That is awesome, I have been very lucky with my cw finds, coming up on only two years now. Congrats on a great find.

That plate is too cool,,
Congrats on a sweet find
My first outing with a "Beep and Dig" machine took place in 1970.
From the looks of the hole you had to dig to get to your plate,
I don't think my old "Beep and Dig" would have detected it.
Most machines back in the day,, couldn't get down more than 3 or 4 inches
with a stock coil. Today's machine are a different breed of technology.
It is not uncommon to pull a Silver Dime from a depth of 9 or 10 inches.
My first belt plate didn't come until last year. Nothing is guaranteed but if
I keep swinging and don't die, there's a slim chance that I might find another.
I wish you another and HH

Thanks everyone! I wanted to comment on the latest replies, but didn't want to add a bunch of replies to thread. I have seen other posts with multiple quotes/replies in one posting, but haven't figured that out yet. Can someone share? Thanks again!

Congrats on a really nice find. I am glad to see that your hard work paid off!

Excellent plate TokenMan! I seem to have good luck finding plates at period house sites... Not sure if its from from troop movement or a veteran discarding gear. You got a really nice one with great color to it too. One of mine was in a fire, and another looks like a team of horses trampled it. ha

You've got to be kidding me dude!! I've been clicking "Reply with Quote" ctrl+a, ctrl+x... then clicking the next persons "reply with quote" ctrl+v.... etc until I built a reply with all the quotes I wanted. I never even noticed that little + multiquote feature. haha I just tried it and it combines everything I was doing manually into one automatic step. Thanks for that tip man. haha

Yeah, I have a few Plates under my belt, no pun intended. :icon_thumright:
