Was that clickbait, or what?!?
My wife and I had a blast at the Texas Treasure Show silver hunt (put on by the Texas Association of Metal Detecting Clubs) in Carthage, Texas, this morning. My two prize tokens I dug were both awarded with 1 oz. .999 bars, each. There were 20 or more detectors given away, and a bunch of pinpointers. At least 80 prize tokens and 5000 silver dimes were seeded. Probably about 100 participants. Just luck of the draw my tokens didn't hit on prize metal detectors. I was happy with a few silver bars and a load of coins to stack away.
Totals are 73 rosies, 19 mercs, 3 quarters, and 2 one ounce fine bars. That's 97 targets. In an hour. I know one guy (Totzke!!) claimed 127 dimes.
Had a lot of fun, but 3.5 hours drive each way was a little much! Sometimes it is held in Temple, Texas, which is much much closer to home!
GL and HH
Thanks for looking!

Thanks a bunch!

These are always great fun. My 5th seeded hunt I've been on... and all have been memorable. Won a Fisher Gold Bug at one in 2017, so I am still on the positive for amount spent versus value of finds!

Fine job on the silver dime recoveries in such a short time! :occasion14:

Looks like it was a great time. Very nice silver haul, I'd take that any day. congrats

Thanks! After checking melt prices for today, it looks like I was about 8 cents (and 50 bucks gas money) shy of making my entry fee back! It was easily $50.08 of fun, though!

Don't worry my friend just keep that silver safe and keep stacking. Silver is so underpriced right now.

I do and will. I keep everything I find. Been at the hobby almost 3 years. Had 20 or 30 silver coins from when I was a kid stored away then. Now I suddenly have over 9 pounds of silver in coins, rings, spoons and other precious relics I have found. Probably just over 3/5 of that is silver coins, rounds and bars from the 5 seeded hunts I have been to in 3 years, but, silver is silver!
Thanks for commenting!!

Looks like a great event and a lot of fun.
I'm going to a seeded hunt on May 18th & 19th, that is on by Dirt Digging Pa every year. Looking forward to it.

Woo hoo! Good luck. It sure is a lot of fun to get together with a bunch of folks and swing like mad for an hour. That hunt is about 1500 miles from me, so I probably won't ever make it to that one... but it looks like a good one, after reading the flyer. The price is nice for two days of hunting, and the view of the fairgrounds on Google Earth is beautiful... river and mountains as a backdrop... nice! Have fun, and good luck!

Glad you enjoyed yourself. Those are awesome Bars of Silver.

Looks like you did very well. I haven't participated in a seeded competition hunt in many years.

I love them. Some people see them as silly, I see them as a way to grab some quick silver and have a good chance at winning some decent prizes... and the money goes toward a detecting club, usually, if not another good cause... so, it's a win for everybody (if you swing fast)!!

What does it cost to do a seeded hunt?

Congratulations on a great time!

It all really depends on what the targets and prizes are. I've paid between 30 and 140 bucks for a single hunt. Most of the time, I have to scramble pretty hard to make my entry fee back in melt value of targets found. I've always gotten really close or exceeded it. If you are not quick, though, you can leave with much, much less.
The real value, to me, is the possible prizes you can win if some of your targets turn out to be tokens! (Tokens in a silver hunt are usually just silver dimes with a prize number and specific mark on them, so you can't cheat.)
I remember one day when I signed up for all 5 hunts of the day. One hunt had old nickels as targets, one hunt had dimes and quarters, one hunt was clad halves, etc. Woo! That was a long day!
