Oval. . . something.

Found this today and I have no idea what it is. It is very heavy, non-magnetic and if I had to guess I would say lead but it is not pliable and I pinch it with pliers and it was too hard to smash. I found it in an old town. The top part is obviously made of ferous material as it is rusting. The only marking is on the front the back is smooth. I have no idea what this is.

The item is very heavy there would be no way to cast it. There is no curve to the item it is flat, it is non-magnetic so I don't think it is pot metal?? Is pot metal magnetic. It is not soft like lead would be. It has me really confused. I did some research on the spot where Ifound it, the place has been a small post office for years. Other than that I can find nothing else out about it that gives me any clues.

If it was heavy, it would cast a mile. But I think youre right, with no curve it would not be an old spoon lure.
Pot metal is indeed non-magnetic. But being heavy and with corrosion spots, I would imagine it to be a lead alloy.
