Hello,

I would like to know if there is a big difference between outboard blowers and the fully installed ones. Do they work the same? Which one is better?

Do you mean outboard vs inboard ?

Mostly with outboards you will be limited to more shallow water and shallow sand depth.

This is because outboards exhaust through the prop, which disturbs the water column that you are pushing towards the sand. The water column maintaining uniformity is actually what determines all blowers working ability.

BUT do not be shy from using outboard blowers if that is your current option.
We worked a fulltime operation with twin 150 Yamaha’s in the late 90’s.

We could work effectively in about 12’ water with about 3-4’ of sand. 15’ of water was more or less an effective limit. You can move deeper sand in 10’ or less it just takes longer than an inboard setup.

When Mother Nature cooperates and the seas are flat the ability to work the shallow water is highly desired. But with that comes more sediment in the water that the intakes like to pick up. We had a metal screen overlay on our intakes and would make checking them every hole just part of the routine. We also had a temp warning buzzer that helped when blowing holes. In the “deeper” water there’s more room for the sediment to disperse so it’s not that much of a problem.

We attempted “manual mount” blowers on site (against what we were told) and then lost some work time as we had them fixed mounted after trying to slide the blowers on in a slight swell. Trust me, if you want to work as much as possible and safely you do not want to be bouncing around in a swell trying to attach blowers nor detach blowers when a storm rolls in early after-noon.
