Me and the family are in Destin Florida on a mini vacation and me and my brother in law went out looking for adventure… found this old factory they were tearing down and I said “looks like silver to me” after walking around for a while and popping 4 wheat pennies we unearthed this beauty from 1926. The Wheats were from 1917-1940… feeling happy 😊
Clearly someone beat us to this, as there were few signals of any kind, but what we found was great !!

We are back in NC so if there is anyone in Florida who wants to hunt where we got that standing liberty, I can tell you just let me know... It's outside of Destin Florida
its being torn down and I'm sure will be developed over ...

Torrero this is SO NICE of you :) You are a TRUE ASSET to this site :)

I clearly wouldn't be saying this if I was still in Florida and could hunt this site, but it's going to be bulldozed, and lost before I will ever get back down there ....
So If someone can do it, maybe they can recover something else from this place before that happens ?
Just to be clear, DON'T expect much as I had the machine wide open and wasn't even getting much trash, a clear sign that someone has hit this place HARD....
In an hour ++ we dug maybe 3 pull tabs, 3-4 of these brass construction cleats, and 4 wheats 3 regular pennies and the Standing Liberty quarter.. So there is clearly not much left...
I say this from the perspective of 40+ years of hunting and the fact that my friend tells me I leave nothing behind..
But I figure its worth throwing out there, because you really never know.... someone missed that Standing liberty quarter, (and wheats) maybe they missed something else ?
Oh and BTW ALL the Wheats and the Quarter were VERY VERY deep and they only made a whisper sound on my
XP DEUS II machine, indicating that they were pulled from almost the max depth for this machine... which is maybe 12-15 inches...

SLQ's are great looking coins - congrats !
Yes they are, the guy I was with had no experience and it was his first time out (my BIL) and I told him, I have only dug maybe 3-4 of these in 40 years of hunting... I have a lot of silver Washington Quarters, and I told him that I have dug more Silver Half dollars than these types of quarters...
That's saying something !!

I've been lucky enough to find (5) SLQ's in the last (15) years.
There's just something special about the way they look - my favorite Silver coins.
And yes, I've also dug more Silver Half Dollars than SLQ's - three times more.

You know... we almost NEVER carry half dollars around with us today, but back in the day.. they must have been a fairly common coin in pocket change !!

I Carry 2 Half dollars with me where ever I go. They are my lucky halves
