Well I met up with BillT, MikeWaz & Twistidd Sunday morning with high hopes of finding so old coins as we spent sometime doing research and looking at old areal pix of the area and mapping the coordinates of old picnic groves and some old house sites that have been long since torn down out in the middle of the woods and loading them to a gps unit. Well that fell through as soon as we got into the woods, the trees blocked our signal all day. So we set out to try and find our spots as best we could but it wasn't meant to be, we are going to go back in the fall time when we will be able to get a signal... We all managed to find a few coins and some relics, the 4 of us managed to find:
1 barber dime
1 merc
1 buffalo
some wheat's
a token of some kind
and some clad.

Is some places it was dead quite so I was digging almost any signal just to pass the time but in other places it was iron city. Today was my 1st hunt with my new 8x6 coil and in one iron spots I slowed way down and was able to squeak the buckle out with a rusted nail right next to it so I have to say it did what I hoped it would do. Today I did manage to find my very 1st musket ball and yet another type of Boy Scout's pin (like the other types that I have found these also have BS of A pat. 1911) so I was real happy with that. Hope everyone got a chance to get out and hunt this weekend.

Looks like that wheatie was dropped in 1930. Too bad the acidic forest droppings snacked on it's flesh for 79 years. That's a whole lot more than I found at the last woods I went to... great finds!

Glad to hear you were able to get out. That stinks about the woods being full now and not being able to get a signal on your GPS. At least you know you have a promising site for the fall. HH!

Hey Fiend, good hunt!
A good indicator that your on the right spot is that iron city scenario. If the homesites your looking for were built after around 1840 that's especially so.

Yeah, talk about a bust! I was going to post my measely finds but I just didn't think they'd stand up against al the other greats that get posted here. Maybe later today when I get home. Only three old coins for me today, three wheaties: '19, and two 26's. Kermit, after we left, Mike and Bill stuck around and Bill found another V (1910 I believe it was). So he was the man of the day. Let's put this spot on the back burner until fall...plenty of other places we can get to that offer more opportunities in a MUCH smaller area, lol.

Nice hunt guys!

Joe

Thanks guys, I know that the iron spots were old locations/sites but I was looking for a few specific locations, have to wait till fall to get right on the spot.

Good digs, Maybe if you go back when it's been dry for awhile, it will help your minelab unmask a little better in all that iron. HH
