They still make this german beer

And I've had it!

(And it's GREAT.)

But it's Austrian, though....

It is Salzburg's oldest beer.  Second in line, age-wise is the Franciscan brewery near the Krankenhaus.

By the way, the inscription I can't read all of, but the phrase "In erinnerung vom" means "In memory of..."

I think the rest of it is a proper name and possibly a nickname...but I need a close-up to see it.

Alot of these old ads are worth quite a bit. Time to do your research. Congrats. Hogge :icon_study:

It is "In Memory of Linzerhof from __________ and ___________"

Anything with the "--hof" suffix is a Place.  Probably an old watering hole in the Salzburg area that had closed, or perhaps a souvenir given from two people to another person who couldn't go that pub anymore due to having left the area/country...  Or could be an area/town in Austria.  It looks like Linzerhof and not Lanserhof or Linderhof or Lindenhof...

There is a place named Lindenhof--on the area Near the beautiful nature preserve and quiet Schloss at Mattsee.  I went to a concert in Mattsee back in around 2004--and in order to get to small room where the choir was singing, I literally walked through a farm.  They had the windows open so that the breeze from the sea came in, and the choir sang Brahms.

If you try to find a guest house named Lindenhof, there will be plenty of them--since it would literally mean "the place where the Linden grows...  But it looks like Linzer-  with a "z" anyhow...  "Lenzerhof" would also net you many possibilities for the place.  If it is "Lenzerhof" then most likely my first guess is correct--but there are so many locales/bars/Gasthäuser named that, that it would be next to impossible to figure out where it was...but Grän or Heiligenblut are both in range of Stiegl's distribution, and they both have a "Lenzerhof" hotel or bar.  Google either town name and enjoy some Breathtaking Alpine Photos.  :)

Pretty cool.

Thanks everyone. Here is a larger pic.

There is a red signature front side bottom right but I need to break the frame open to see it.

Thanks for the close-up.  I'm having trouble deciphering the names--second one especially.  First line most certainly reads "In memory of Lenzerhof"--but the word Lenzerhof is in quotations (the "open quotation" mark is below and in front of the "L."  "Close quotation" is in the normal spot).  So perhaps the place was only known as Lenzerhof among those friends.

The first name on the second line of text could be a nickname--since it ends with an "L"...  For example, I've seen "Barbara" turned into the nickname "Bäberl" and so forth, but it is not a nickname I'm familiar with.

That's all I've got.

Best Wishes,

Cool! I'll check back and take a look. Careful with the frame if it looks like the original one.

I assume we're dealing with a print here anyhow...

Dang....I need to start looking in dumpsters.....

You know what?!!!! One time I went to go throw something away in a blockbuster video dumpster, and found a whole lot of dvd's/games, so I took them to game stop and came out with a gamecube and a crapload of games for my kids. Don't be shy, unless there's people around. (Dumpster diving=Not a social thing)

Actually there was a lock and chain on the dumpster to keep outsiders from using it. The pictures were on top and I slid them out. I didnt actually dive in, but I would have for something good lol.

Second name appears to be (or start) "von Traudl". Google tells me that's a valid phrase, but after that I can't guess.

Chip V.

Traudl is (apparently) a girl's nickname.

From wikipedia - Traudl Junge (16 March 1920 – 10 February 2002), born Gertraud Humps, was Adolf Hitler's youngest personal private secretary, from December 1942 to April 1945.

Gertraud = "Traudl" Excellent! Gertraud is an older name--and I don't hear it much anymore.

Nice work, DCMatt

Here is the artist signature. Does anyone recognize it?

It doesnt appear to match any name on the back. I think it is a modern print and worthless. I may however try to sell it on eBay as a beer advertisement.

Isn't there a phrase that goes "One man's trash is another man's treasure."? You betcha! A "dumpster diver" friend of mine gave me a cast iron skillet he plucked out of a dumpster. It turned out to be a $200 Griswald. Jackknife, swan dive, no matter. In and out is the key. WTG
