ORX in Test Garden

Bill, I get it. I don't ask for the information just for the hell of it or to show off as some detector know it all nerd twit. I do it because people sling a lot of information around the boards and it helps me and others who are just reading and not posting to separate fact from fiction. Your info is obviously fact backed up by thorough testing but I have no way of knowing that otherwise. Thanks for the added info and great information for me to have when I have to make the call for depth or separation. I noticed a difference too but chalked it up to the bigger coil size. That's why I got the bigger coil instead of a 9" x35 do that I could cover the bases. 9" HF for thick iron, 11" x35 for depth and coverage. I rarely use 54khz myself either, but since I already had the 9" HF coil I went for the 11" x35. Thanks again.

Your absolutely right, I'd have that combo also.. the x35 is also deeper and alot smoother than the older black coils. I'm sure you tested that also.. just the fact of cranking sensitivity up to 99 and still run quiet and smooth adds depth and with no chatty noise there is no denying when swinging over a good target.. great coils.. they should sell the ORX with x35 coils.. I may have to buy one and add an x35 coil . I'm gonna keep watching this thread and others though for a few weeks or so..

What is the TX power set on the x35?

TX is set to 2 and not adjustable on the HF coils.

It was adjustable. However for the tests I set everything equal or as equal as settings would allow. I don't have a deus at the moment.. in my ground though, the deus basic settings worked 95% of the time with only minor adjustments needed. Only in severe situations were settings needed to be changed alot.. heavy iron or extreme depth. That's why I was watching reviews on the ORX. The equinox does everything I need but a $750 ORX for traveling or just keeping in a backpack like a grab and go would be nice and a great back up detector. I'd keep it with me camping..

As Bill said, where the HF and X35 coils roughly overlap in frequency, the X35 has full TX power adjustability and it defaults to TX 2, so the comparison he did is apples to apples. FWIW, at the low frequency range (3.7 - 4.3 khz), the x35 has TX power settings of "Normal" and "Boost" so who knows how that correlates to TX 1, 2, 3. And frankly, since the HF coil TX power setting is locked and not displayed, who knows if that TX 2 (only mentioned on the spec sheet) corresponds to TX 2 on the X35 coil. I presume they are the same, but who knows. Another cool thing about the X35 coil is that TX power is not locked if you do a frequency shift, unlike the legacy LF coils.

If it was priced at $600 or came with 2 coils, maybe. Haven't seen any selling for less than $899.

It's about that time of year for new models to start showing up, the XP Dues is getting a little long in tooth (old age with how fast tech moves these days) I am hoping for a new XP Dues II with Multi-freq scanning simultaneously, better separation, depth, and lighter but stronger shaft system!
So I think the price of the ORX will drop to under $600 soon

Agree, if they sold ORX with an x35 coil or without a coil, that would be great. I think they are marketing to prospectors though and the HF coils are their gold prospecting coils.
