Opinions wanted... To scrap or repair this 18k ring... and stone opinions...

Wow old thread.

Lets review / update shall we...

Ok ... ring is long gone...

And my girl cashed MOST of her collection last couple years.
She is down to a few now she wears daily.

BTW... I exaggerated how much she wore :P

Lol! :laughing7: Since I read the whole thread not realizing it was that old... What did you ever do with that ring anyway scrap or replace the garnet? Enquiring minds want to know.

Scrap... after stone removal.

Still have the stones somewhere... err I think. heh

Have you ever hit the stones with UV light? That's a pretty common filter to see if they are rubies. After you've seen a ruby glow in UV, its a color you never forget. Or did you do other tests to determine that they are garnets?

Stone is garnet. Garnets are cheap. Go ahead and fix it.

Oh I forgot...
By the way I will have you all know...
I did have it looked at BEFORE scraping.
First person = Ugly ring / garnet.
Second person = Not worth fixing = garnet.

My problem with vintage jewelry repair is finding someone qualified to work on it. The last time I had something repaired they basically ruined the piece.

Sorry to beat your dead horse, but were the persons pronouncing them to be garnets experts, like jewelers or geo profs? Did you do any testing on them(refraction index, hardness, UV, streak, density, etc)? Lot of people on here have that opinion from looking at photos but those thoughts amounts to nothing really (including mine).

The stones have a deep color. Hold on to the ring. Price could go up. You can always do what you want with it later on. Sounds like you have a gold scrap pile anyway. Wish I had a scrap pile of gold!!! I just love the workmanship and the old style which you can't replace. If you scraped it. What would you get? $50.00 and stones for something else? I give my rings to family, but only if they fit and have no owner. I would look a little harder at the spot you found the ring at for the other small stones. But it looks like your a water man. What ever you do with the ring. Your ahead of the game. You must be single!! Ha Ha But don't do anything to it until you know what you want to do with it.

Was not found in water.
