This is a 1st for me. After at least 1200 boxes of halves, i open today's box and every roll is opened on one end and reclosed. The other end was machine rolled. Also, they were not the familiar yellow wrappers but brown wrappers. The box was glued shut so I'm guessing this was done to save time where the coins were boxed. I'm hoping it doesn't become a habit, the box was a skunk with a couple of rolls a half short. Has this ever happened to any of you? Thanks for reading,MM2

Hi Mountainman,
Yep!...happened to me a couple of times. Usually at Wachovia banks. Seems the tellers
did not empty the "dumped" rolls out of the paper wrappers. They simply put the rolled coins in the bag for shipping out to Brinks. Brinks then just put the opened wrapped rolls in a box. They get lazy.
Hope that answers your question.

MM,

I have had it happen a few times...it's deflating.

Even worse, a couple of months ago I got four sealed boxes (glued flaps) from Loomis that were filled with brown customer wraps...all skunks.

Also, have a picture of one box I got last year that had black marker lines drawn down the side of many rolls...none of which produced silver, but found a few 40%'s in "normal" rolls in the same box. (see pic)

I just hope for the best and take what I get!

HH, and hope that this junk is few and far between for you.
CD

BTW, I have lusted after some of your previous monster finds.

Hey doodle, what were your assumptions on those rolls that had a black marker through them? Did someone buy a box, and weigh the rolls, mark the ones that weighed like a roll without silver, and then turm them into the bank.? That is the only explanation I can think of but I am fairly new to this amazing hobby. I have heard multiple times that weighing the rolls is not fool proof, what are the thoughts on this?

The rolls above looked opened. The end you don't see is uncrimped. The rolls are searched, reloaded, and the ends folded down. The Loomis employees just stack the box with the opened ends down. Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Just turned down an opened box with opened rolls from wells fargo [wacovia]

I dont think you can weigh the rolls and tell if they have an silver. The difference in weight between 20 nickel copper clad and 19 nickel copper clad with one 40% Silver clad is 226.80 grams vs 226.96 grams.

This is what the box had instead of the yellow wrappers. I wonder if this is a regional problem or is this happening all across the country? I'm in Northern NJ.
I know this is off topic but i found out that one of my dump banks where i drop off bags has another searcher dumping 10 bags a week(2 trips of 5 bags each with $500 per bag). I only drop off 3-4 bags a week. He was right in front of me in line this morning when i dropped off 1 bag. Bank tellers can get tired of this in a hurry. Hope it doesn't jeopardize my good relations at this bank.

R Doc,

I thought they might have been weighted, but wouldn't swear to it. Machine wraps I get sometimes have loose or untucked ends, and contain silver.

I've never personally seen the allure of weighing rolls, unless you plan on recycling the machine wraps (a practice which I despise...but to each his own...I think it makes it too easy for lazy employees to just recycle the rolls and waste my time), the circumstances and variations in weight make it seem too possible to miss a 40% here and there.

HH,
