It all started with a sign (lol) I walked outside at night to metal detect... And i saw an almost perfect "MoonBow" (literally a rainbow formed by moonlight).. i found alot of junk, a penny, and a nickel... then this... ssomething that looked like junk.. but after brushing off the dirt.. I see gold plating!! it isnt solid because i can see the sides... but what even is it?? And why is it so random and covered in gold... its about 1inch to 1.5inches wide.. I want to know what it is before i scrape the gold off it..

Could be tarnished brass? Similar weight and colour...

Your first photo is a moon dog. The other thing, not sure. Could it be part of a tag for a keychain or collar for pet? Is that even a hole in it? Sorry, not much help

No, Ive found lots of brass/copper objects.. Also it isnt tarnished, the red stuff in the pic is something else, it isnt from the gold plating.

Gold plated scrap broken off something. ID tag, key ring, name plate, manufacturer logo (like from a sewing machine), mirror bracket, etc.

It's sometime hard to ID things, let alone pieces of things.

Looks nothing like any of those things imho... And im not saying its a million dollar find, not even a really good find, just saying 1mm is really thick as far as gold plating goes.. it was meant to last..

Did it go down like this?
Guy1: "Lets gold plate this piece of junk"
Guy2: "Yeah screw it lets do it"
Guy1: "Real thick to yo"
Guy2: "yeah!"

You didn't say it had 1mm of gold plating until just now. Possibly gold filled instead of gold plated. But gold filled doesn't flake, tarnish or rust. So that doesn't seem to be the case from the image.

It likely wasn't a piece of junk when gold plated (if that is what it is). It was part of something larger and nice. But then a piece got broken off. And that sad piece lay there until you came along and rescued it.

Are you sure it is gold? The photo looks as if it is paint. Try to scratch it? Soak it in vinegar - if it is gold it should clean up real nice.

Well it tested 22kt on my acid test.. and ill try it

EDIT: i tried it, it didnt corrode it, or change its color, still shines!

First of all, I know its not polite to call somebodies baby ugly, but I'm goin' to stick my chin out there and say its not gold. First of all, from the pictures, the base metal looks ferrous. Something like cast iron. I would think it would be highly unlikely that some one would plate cast with 22K gold at all, much less that thick. It looks to me like a brass alloy used in the brazing process to repair some object made of something like cast. That stuff will not corrode or rust after applied either. I'm thinking in my mind that the red substance showing is impurities in the cast brought to the surface by the flux used in the application process.
Of coarse ,it's just an opinion! You asked, so you got one. For your sake I hope I'm dead wrong and you go back to where you found it and you uncover another five pounds of 22k Gold. I'm just making an observation.Good luck and happy hunting!

I thought brass to.. But when I tested brass and then tested my metal mine didn't react.. The brass did... Also if that other layer is just impurites.. Why is some have red impurities and yet the other green

Also it isnt iron.. it isnt even rusted.. And it clearly (atleast in real life) is not metal.. its literally paint..

Gold leafing on a piece that was likely an old container/vessel. If the hole is drilled but does not go through, given apparent age, I would think maybe part of a gold-leafed lantern (holes like that were used to insert spring-fit iron handles for swinging, no screws needed.)

its roofing parts, i took it to a friend and he said that, so we tried to melt the gold plate (to see if it was really paint) and it just incinerated.. so its paint
