I was able to get out and do some scratching yesterday.Along with a small pile of pottery.I found a couple stone pieces. The rough one is a type of celt or daze. This other piece is anybody's guess. Its a very smooth and uniform in shape. It measures 4 3\4" long 1 1\2""wide and a 1\2 thick. It has turned very black from handling it.I'm not sure of rock type. Its definitely a something. I've never found one in 5yrs of digging this site.Any ideas.

Mainejman I know what you mean by association. I will often find similar items when finding artifacts even digging a shelter. It looks natural and they may have used it as a ready made tool by nature but I am not seeing anything that says man shaped it.Carried it there is possible ?

Looking in my display case I see several that I think should be something by association but do not have the heart to chunk them.:dontknow:
Keep posting am enjoying seeing your finds. I have good friends in Bangor.

one with little experience being a picture authenticator and being so bossy!

I got just as much experience as you do. But claim to be no expert.

If I found that on a midden site I would think it's a pottery tool.

The other large "tool" looks like fossilized bone, like mammoth or large mammal leg bone sidepiece, even looks tuskish..... do you have pleistocene/miocene....fossils up there???

"By Association" is HUGE when it comes to a site, or specific areas of a site. Even if we don't truly know the function.

I have no problem stating that I am an expert.....in some things.:goldtrophy:
