A nice clear close-up of that vug (cavity) would be helpful, as would a hardness test (will a steel knife scratch it?) - I'm inclined to say at the base level it is chalcedony, but with that color and apparent translucency I would call it carnelian. A carnelian geode. Regardless that is a beautiful piece there!
