One of my best hunts in a while. Archaic stone tools, Fur Trade, possible fossil.

Had one of those epic week-ends I haven't had in a while. The weather was just perfect, so I hit three areas with potential. One of them did occasionally throw at me some stone artifacts but I would rarely find more than one in any given year. Well I just multiplied it seven fold! On top of it, some of them are of the top shelve quality.

My favorite was this relic that I still haven't managed to positively ID, but it could be a highly polished slate or nephrite hide stretcher or adze.
Still can't believe it survived in a such a great condition on the plowed field. Any opinions on its use, composition and age?






Had an other amazing surprise. Found this piece that at first I believed to be a stone scrapper. Nothing exceptional but still a very cool relic...



Than, while reorganising my display case, noticed something strange...
Back in 2015 I have found my very first partial Archaic point. I still remember how excited I was back than. The stone it was made of and its sharpness reminded me of that previous piece I have mentioned.



Without much hope, I decided to verify if the two pieces fit together... And Voilà!



Couldn't believe my eyes! To find both pieces on a plowed field, five years apart.. just mind blowing! Did some repair work on it and it looks great on display.



Also, found some stone arrow points.

A possible Levanna type.



And one I haven't yet managed to ID



Three in the last week or so.



As well as a partial spear or knife of a similar material as the one I've managed to restore.



Than, as it wasn't enough, an other cool surprise, a possible fossil. Looks like a leaf patterns on both sides.Plus, on the top part of the other side, what appears to be a footprint.



Couldn't finish my day without an other Trade axe. It didn't survive as well as the much older stone tools



Had many more great finds this weekend on an other site. Will be making a post about them in a few days.

I'm not sure. I don't have much knowledge when it comes to stone artifacts. It does look similar to one...

Are my computer weary, tired eyes playing tricks on me or are the sections of stone different colours?
Maybe portions of it were exposed to the air and some of it was buried in the mud for thousands of years

Thanks Dave. No, you can see a different color layer going through the rock. I'm not sure how that happens but would bet it was during the rock formation.

Are you kidding me? The odds of matching that point are pretty remote. Get out and buy that 6/49 for tonight’s draw!

Probably not a coincidence that it broke at the transition of those two rock layers. I would think that would create a weak point.

With the first tool instead of an Adze, could it just be a straight up axe? Attach that thing upright to a stick and it looks like it would smash someone’s head pretty effectively.

Have you posted these on the North American Indian Artifact forum? Last time I looked I didn't see them. You might get some answers there.

Those are a bunch of great stone tools and the fossil is a magnificent find too.
