Obviously know what it is. Lefaucheux Pinfire Revolving Rifle circa mid 1800's. Just wanted to know if anyone could give more info on it. Have found some around the internet but this one has elaborate engravings on it and haven't found any others engraved like this.

Hope the picture is big enough. Didn't think to take any close-ups. Only stamping we can't make out is the serial number because that area is also engraved. Can make out a 3 but that's it. Anyone have another we can compare it to?

As far as I know they have never been found. A canoe load supposedly. Maybe its treasure fable. :dontknow: Google Harney, Seminole War, Caloosahatchee, Colt rifles. Somewhere around 1840.

This is my cousin's husband's stuff. She kept harping about his "junk" collection and then he pulls out this chest full of the things I've posted as well as this rifle. I was blown away at all the cool stuff in it. And this rifle is something else. I can't believe she teases him and thinks this is junk. Here's a few of the other interesting items he had along with the rifle and other things I posted earlier. The coin is a silver Trajan 97-113 AD or so. The cuffs and knuckles are 1920's

Can't find another engraved rifle like this though.

The engraving was a custom job. Original rifles never come engraved, unless the customer asked and paid for it specifically. It's a special job that only people with good coin would ask to have done. It's a way of personalizing your gun and making yours stand out from the rest. That rifle is the real deal, don't worry. If anything, the engraving makes it even more valuable if it was done at the time of it's manufacture.

Based on this one that went for $1400.00, I would add $800-1000 for condition and the better engravings. As for the Brass Knuckles, they are Illegal, but still very nice  :icon_thumleft:

Brass knuckles, switchblades, etc. are not regulated by any federal law that I know of. Their legality would vary from state to state. Sorry for jumping in but I see all the time on here where someone will post about the legality of something and unless they are referring to a federal law, they are just passing on incorrect information.

As would be a sword if you were to go walking down the street.I am sure in a collection. You are fine.I wouldnt carry them in my pocket every day.Thats the problem, with all these laws, there are so many, people cant keep up and are afraid of them!!

OK, let me rephrase the statement!. In most states they are Legal to own!, but they are listed in all states and Federal Gov. as DEADLY WEAPONS and are Illegal to carry or posses on ones person in public, same as Switchblades, Firearms and so on!!!. Now that should pacify everyone. In France you must have a License to own and carry them, and in most Country's around the world they are completely ILLEGAL, and carry Jail time if one is caught with them at all!. Oh and the ones you purchase online or at flea markets are sold for Entertainment Purposes Only! read the fine print!!!

I dont see anything here illegal to possess as a collector. But I agree, I wouldnt punch someone in public with these, or handcuff them or try to shoot them with a pinfire.  I wouldnt carry the knuckles in my pocket either. It just may be illegal. :dontknow:

BTW can you buy ammo for that rifle?

Deadly Weapon Law & Legal Definition: A deadly weapon is generally defined as a firearm or anything manifestly designed, made, or adapted for the purposes of inflicting death or serious physical injury. The term includes, but is not limited to, a pistol, rifle, or shotgun; or a switch-blade knife, gravity knife, stiletto, sword, or dagger; or any billy, black-jack, bludgeon, or metal knuckles.

Use and carrying of deadly weapons are governed by state and federal laws. Generally, use of a deadly weapon in commision of a crime enhances the nature and penalty of the crime. Carrying concealed deadly weapons is governed by state laws, which vary by state. Some states allow licensing of qualified persons to carry a concealed deadly weapon. Because of differences in the laws of the various states, it is possible that a person who is lawfully permitted to possess a deadly weapon in another state may be prohibited from doing under the law of another state.
This is the Law-Libary of Congress Definition. I was curious and started looking at the State Laws, I stopped at 27 States. They all had Metal Knuckles, in their Deadly Weapons Laws. It is Illegal to Possess them in all states in Public, Open or Concealed off of ones Property. In your privet collection its fine, in Public its not. :icon_thumleft:

It'd sure be fun to fire. Don't know if it'd be worth the risk though.

Almost every American possesses a "deadly weapon". I think the key here is that deadly weapons are not illegal in the USA if used, collected or possessed responsibly. I wonder if knuckles can be carried with the Concealed Weapons Permit? Does anybody know?

Thanks Kid. Since the following "deadly weapons"

handguns
electronic weapons or devices
tear gas guns
knives
billies

are legal to carry in my state (Florida)with the CCW, I would imagine the knuckles are also legal to carry here.

I think Idaho is even legal to carry open. http://apps.carryconcealed.net/legal/idaho-ccw-state-laws.php Idaho is one of our "Gold Star" open carry states. They have full preemption of state laws, open carry is increasingly common and open carry is legal in motor vehicles. Please see http://opencarry.org/

It would seem if you are not a felon and can legally carry an open gun (with permit) it would seem likely that you can also openly carry the knuckles in OldNBrokens home state of Idaho. I doubt he was ever concerned. Pretty much every American carries a CCW nowadays. Many Europeans (and some Americans) do not understand why we refuse to give up the right to defend ourselves.
