One lonely find today, but it's from the 1700's

I waited this morning till the temps got closer to freezing and then went had a one mile walk to my site, I no sooner got there, when the sleet and rain that was predicted for later in the day, decided to visit me several hours earlier!

Luckily I did get one good reading very early in the hunt, very close to where a half real was found by my son a couple years back, I got a nice pair of cufflinks which I am sure are from the 1700's.

The sleet turned to all rain and after about two hours of it, I called it quits and squished back to my truck happy for at least one old find today.

When I got home and looked at the pair of cufflinks, I recognized the design and went to my box I keep finds that have not been put on display yet and sure enough, there was one half of a set that matched exactly to the pair I found today!

I am not sure how many sets of cufflinks I now have but I might have enough to make up a new shadow box with just cufflinks on display. I have more somewhere, most likely in my found folders and will consider it another one of my winter projects to get done.

I attached a photo of some of the other cufflinks that I had readily available and there are a couple nice ones in there. I believe all are from 18th century and possibly a tad into the 19th century.

Awesome finds Don! Nice to have hard evidence of the period they were used as well, 1744 date is nice. Thanks for the post as it has shined some light on my buttons, I may have partial cuff links like yours as the buttons look different on the backs than most older button loops. HH, Mike

Don . . . that's an extremely rare find . . . you've got quite a collection . . . I especially like the cufflink with the coat of arms of King

Nice job. Those are great. Here's the only one I've found so far in NY, at old Rev. War era home. Someone I detect with found one there too. It appears to be a bird on top of a cup.

I certainly wouldn't put those cufflinks anywhere past 1810 or so, and I'll bet you're right- they're probably from the late 1700s!

Man, sites like that are exciting! Congratulations! Now go dig a gold guinea or somethin'!

Edit... or maybe a nice high grade Chain cent. Mmm. Places where stuff like those cufflinks came from are just brimming with interesting possibilities. I can daydream about such sites all day long. Unfortunately, I only get to hunt such places on rare occasions.
