I did a post about a month ago about a hunt I did at an older house close by; one of my ballplayers lives there and I just had a good feeling about the place. Today, my suspicions were confirmed. Last time, I managed a 1902 Indian and some older wheats; I knew that there had to be more oldies, plus silver, lurking. Today, I found some. My first good hit was actually an 1897 Indian head penny; I suspect that both halfdime children have one so this should go to Reese (the player in question). A short time later, an 1897 Barber dime showed up, a little more corroded than I'm used to, but still silver. Unfortunately, it's a Philly and not one of the scarcer mints . Still, it's been so long since I found a Barber that I can live with that. I'm pretty sure one of my kids will need it. Thirteen wheat pennies later, I was getting pretty weary; I need to get back in detecting shape! Among the wheats were a 10, a pair of 13's, a 16, a pair of 20's and a 21. After a little cleaning, these will go in a 2x2 for Reese. Finally, I meandered for a bit and got a pretty solid penny signal; after removing one and rescanning, I found a second. Miss halfdime was on duty, identifying the pennies and getting dates. The last two were pretty dirty, and she had difficulty confirming them as wheat pennies. Taking a look myself, I informed her that they weren't wheats, which is why she couldn't find the stalks. They were very dirty and needed a good cleaning at home. When they finally got it, I was pleased to discover a worn, but readable, 1875 and a more obvious 1881. They'd spent a long time together and I know the 75 is a keeper; I'll have to check on the 81. It might be going to Reese. At one point, I got a lovely quarter signal, down 4 inches. I just knew there was a silver quarter waiting, the only question in my mind was whether it would be Barber or SLQ. Boy was I wrong. It was this necklace charm, with a clock face under a hemisphere of glass. A cool find, I guess, and it once graced the lovely area just south of a woman's neck. Now for the bad news: I went to find the camera and discovered that Mrs. halfdime took it to work; I'll have to post pictures later on. For now, I hope you enjoyed the story; I'll get pictures up as soon as I can.
