Over the course of hunting the last number of years, I've picked up a few pieces that were likely celt portions. Today I put two pieces together and came up with one piece that is likely a celt that was broken during manufacture. Due to lack of any polish on the piece I doubt it was exhausted, surely not used much if it was. Anyway I like when I can put two pieces together even if they aren't the greatest.

Great match up! It is always a good idea to recheck your finds.

not even close. ;)

Cool stuff Quito!

Looks like a definite match to me, even if the larger"bit" section has more patina or hasn't been washed as thoroughly. The second picture appears to indicate that it was probably broken by a farming implement, if that is iron oxide traces on both pieces (the rust marks). Indicating it was whole when it was struck by a metal implement at some time. Perhaps the occasion of of it's being broken.
And speak of "not the greatest", here's a couple of bittersweet celtsI've found. You know, when you find a celt that's pretty much whole but it's rather crudely made...ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1502259277.406540.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1502259305.027164.jpg

Now thats impressive! I thought I was doing good with 3.

SI have a feeling if I took the time, I could possibly put another or 2 together with all the partials I have. What would really trip my trigger it to put three pieces together.
